Seller Notes: “Good-Very Good overall vint cond: Offered is this very well-preserved late 19th c American antique ... “Good-Very Good overall vint cond: Offered is this very well-preserved late 19th c American antique 'The American Standard,' Sheffield Mfg Co, Burr Oak, MI, pat.1891-1893 farm tool. One of the superlative features about this particular early piece of manual farming equipment, is that it was inspired & its design driven by the industrial revolution, transforming urban, as well as rural America at that time. The seeder has a round tin hopper, held in place on a red painted wash wood frame by green painted wood cleats. This rather ingenuous agricultural seed contraption once allowed a single farmer or field hand, to fill the hopper w/seed & walk along the freshly tilled rows & stick the tin reinforced ends of the clothespin-like hinged end into the soil & open the hopper's single see trap by means of a foot pedal & attached wires. The wood shaft & foot pedal are painted in orig red wash w/green accents. The wood handle was lacquered. Black stenciling is found on the front & back. It works.”
