Garmin Real Voice technology provides spoken turn-by-turn directions, allowing you to stay on course while keeping your eyes on the road. The Garmin 2557LMT is filled with maps of North America, known as nuMaps. You receive free lifetime updates of the maps from the manufacturer four times per year, so you can rest assured that you will always have the most up-to-date map for your route. The maps include navigation information and points of interest, so you can find addresses and check for your destination among millions of points of interest, including restaurants, hotels, stores, and other destinations throughout North America. Simply select the point of interest or type in the address, and the navigator will take you there. Additionally, you can add custom points of interest to the device. The Garmin nuvi 2557 GPS is equipped with Active Lane Guidance to guide you through interchanges and exits with confidence. The animated model on the map features arrows that indicate the lane you need to be in for your route, and brightly colored arrows specify the right drive lane and road signs that will appear along the route. Voice prompts offer additional guidance when you cannot look at the map. In addition to an up-to-date map and turn-by-turn directions, this auto navigator provides reliable information about traffic along your route through Garmin Traffic. The map remains on the screen with traffic alerts and spoken messages. Garmin Traffic provides details about traffic and how much of a delay you can expect, so you can adjust your route to avoid getting stuck in traffic and still arrive at your destination on time. You receive free lifetime traffic updates with exceptional customer service, so you always have the latest information to avoid being stuck in traffic. The Garmin nuvi GPS has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. When the battery is fully charged, it offers 2.5 hours of battery life before it will need to be recharged. The unit comes with a suction cup mount, USB cable, quick start manual, and lifetime traffic antenna and vehicle power cable. In addition to the maps, features, and accessories that come with the Garmin nuvi 2557LMT GPS, other accessories can be purchased separately. A wireless backup camera can be added to enable you to see pedestrians and vehicles behind you, so you can back up safely. The unit accepts a microSD card, which is also sold separately.     Great unit - HORRIBLE map update

    The unit itself seems to be a nice unit. I'm still trying to figure out how to look up locations. I'm still doing something wrong due to the fact that 9 times out of 10, I get an "error"message. I'm really sure that that is a "learning curve" issue. Now, when you first get the unit, you are supposed to register it and update the unit. Holy crud, that is when it went from functional, to disfunctional!!!!!!!! I even updated my older Garmin at the same time. Big mistake. It cannot find an address to a home we have owned for 20yrs and has been there for 50yrs!!! Before the "update" all was well. After the update, when you use it even for the simplest routes, better have your off road truck, camping gear, and charged cell phone handy!!! Because you are going on the drive of your life!!!     Easier to read

    I've had several other brands and this Nuvi is easier to read and better verbal directions by far. Software was easy and straight forward, no problems with install of current updated maps and firmware. Very pleased with model compared to years of use with other major brand with comparable model/features. Did by a sun shield for it helps a lot seeing screen in daylight.

    Excellent lane guidance GPS

    Easy to use and gets a GPS fix very quickly. Lane guidance implementation is excellent and reliable. Accompanying mount attaches reliably to windshield. Unit itself attaches also quite quickly to the mount. Main drawback is screen visibility when exposed to direct and bright sunlight. A 3rd party screen hood is a must.

    One of the best of an earlier era

    I've purchased six of these units for our sports car club to map out backroads routes. Very reliable; not many bells and whistles, but hey, who needs them anyway? The BEST feature of the 2557 is the fact that map updates are FREE !! New maps are easily downloaded from the factory website, and once again, they're FREE !! Lastly, used units are available for under twenty bucks. Just download the newest maps and buy a new battery, and you can enjoy the use of a "new" old GPS receiver at a more than reasonable price.
