About this product

Product Information

It was in 1914 that Mary Phelps Jacob set women free—from the prison of the corset. With a little help from her lady’s maid, this ingenious New York socialite stitched together two handkerchiefs and a long pink ribbon to fashion the world’s first-ever brassiere. (Jacob later sold her patent for $1,500—to a company that went on to make $15millionoff her invention.) The rest, as they say, is history—a history that’s amply, titillatingly documented by designer Cheree Berry inHoorah for the Bra. The 20s’ flat-chested flappers, the 50s’ bullet-bosomed bombshells, the eye-gouging cones of Madonna’sBlonde Ambition–tour bustier: this provocative pop-up book reveals it all. The straps and the cups. The underwire and the padding. The elastic and the Lycra. The demure pink satin and the racy midnight lace.Hoorah for the Bratells a tale that doesn’t sag and presents a cast of characters—mail-order moguls, brassiere-torching women’s-libbers, sweater-clad movie stars—who never let you down. Sure to be a bust-out hit, the book’s the perfect gift for any Wonderbra dreamer or Frederick’s of Hollywood vamp. To view the pop-ups, you just lift and separate!

  • Hoorah for the Bra

I went to school with Cheree. She is a very talented young woman. I am amazed at how successful she has become. From working side by side with Kate Spade to writing a book and owning her own business in St Louis. What talent!! This book is so fun, yet so amazing. I don't think I would have ever made in back in the day. I do like how over the years bras have become more sleek and not so bulky, covering half your body. Wonderful, fun and very exciting book to read!!!

  • Well "Supported"

Overall I am glad I purchased the book. The history of the bra is well depicted, however if you are looking for an intricate pop-up design you might be dissapointed. I purchased it for someone who has many pop-up books, and they got a good chunkle especially when they noticed the bra clasp closure. It definately is creative and has many interesting facts.

  • The history of Bras!

As a high school history teacher, I loved this book because it go my kids attention. It has no profanity or obvious nudity in it and it really does show a correlation to the design of the bra and the changes in women's history. i love it!
