Filmmaker Robert Townsend directs a tenderly tearful story about love, discrimination, and survival with HOLIDAY HEART. The movie stars Ving Rhames as the title character, Holiday--a church-loving, flamboyant gay drag queen with a heart of gold. After Holiday's long-time lover, Fisher (Benz Antoine), passes away, Holiday is left alone and grieving. So when a homeless drug addict, Wanda (Alfre Woodard), and her young daughter, Niki (Jessika Quynn Reynolds), unexpectantly fall in need of Holiday's help, he moves them into the apartment next door to his own. The three form an unconventional family. That is, until Wanda brings home a new boyfriend, drug dealer Silas (Mykelti Williamson), and changes everything for the worse. Wanda's inability to avoid drugs threatens to further break the trio apart and Niki suffers and she watches her dream of a normal, stable family life dissolve. Playwright Cheryl L. West adapted her original play, HOLIDAY HEART, into a screenplay for this original Showtime movie.

    A Must Watch Movie

    This is a rare movie done by Ving Rhames. Hard to find. I caught the last 40 minutes on TV about a year ago and yearned to see the entire movie. I was so happy to find it online. Ving Rhames gives a powerful yet soft hearted performance about love, joy, sadness and kindness. The young actress who plays Nikki is truly wonderful. This story will melt your heart ... as says the title... Holiday Heart.

    I was very excited about getting this film when I opened it the disc was seriously had a scratched deep in the disc and said very good condition it wouldn’t even play it said no disc. So I dump in trash and put in the trash and pay and spent a little bit more.

    i purchased this dvd because i had the chance to see this movie when it first came out and it was FANTASTIC!!! I love an actor that TRULY ACTS!!! AND VING RHAMES ususally plays these big tough roles ,as a actor he smashes that box wide open ,as he plays a full beat down drag queen w/a HEART OF GOLD!!     Spectacular example of Love and Compassion!!

    I bought his DVD after seeing the movie on television and realizing that alot of stuff must have been cut out. When I watched it for the first time on DVD it was so emotional and raw. I felt what they felt not only because I have been in the situation that Nikki(the daughter of a drug addict)is in but because the actors in this movie are so good at making you feel it. Ving Rhames' role in this movie was by far the best I think he has ever done. He has such an amazing way of making you feel how everyday life is for a Drag Queen or Homosexual to be politically correct. Just a beautiful story of one girl's struggle to save her mother from drugs and one man's struggle to help and survive this world of prejudice!!!!
