  • a older Prince

After a decade and a half of only making records that tickled his own eccentric fancy, Prince has returned with a rather high-minded agenda to educate listeners in the science of music--or at least take them back to school--make that old school, bragging on the title track that "We got a Ph.D. in advanced body movin'." But his braggadocio is not without merit. The Purple One has reconnected with that deep vein of funk after experimenting with his splendid and messy excesses since the cusp of the nineties, and turned out his best album since 1987's Sign of the Times. Lean and minimal but with pronounced airtight grooves, the musician once again fuses the spiritual with the carnal, but has turned down the heat quite a bit since becoming a Jehovah's Witness. Instead of a dirty mind, Prince ...

  • Funky and Smooth

I really enjoyed this CD. The Title track "Musicology" alone speaks for itsslef. You can tell Prince wanted this album to be pure funk, but at the same time have a purpose. With tunes such as " Dear Mr. Man", "Musicology", and " What do you want me to do ?", he meant business. There wouldn't be a Prince album without a few baby making tracks, such as "Call My Name", "On The Couch", just to name a couple. The "Musicology" seem to be one Prince's best albums to date. Although his albums as of late did not live up to the success of the critically acclaimed albums "Purple Rain", or "1999". This album is amazing and anyone who is lover of soul, funk, smooth grooves and rock..... This album really kicks ass !!!

  • Clever Title~Very nice

This Prince Cd has problems From start to finish. The title track is too much of an attempt at a James Brown Groove,But lacks Brown's Powerhouse vocals and dynamics. Throughout this entire cd Prince sounds a bit off key Vocally. There are a few nice slow grooves, Other than that the cd sort of lays there. Doesn't seem to have Much of a foundation like his early works, Purple Rain Or 1999. The Dance Grooves here are Out of place and they go nowhere. Vocally Prince seems to be flat On many of the songs.Prince was never a great vocalist by any means, However his earlier work had enthusiasm and appeal. This cd get's a C- from me. Bacl to the drawing board on this One your Purple Majesty.

  • Mature effort for the artist known as his original name

Enjoyable. As stated - mature effort...but it is still Prince. There is funk, and soul, and old school vibe that really groove. I don't listen to it all the time - but it is definately an 'in the mood' type of CD. Recommended.
