Seller Notes: “Good-Very Good overall vint: A rare pre-WWII, early 20th c American folk art, vint, hnd crvd & hnd ... “Good-Very Good overall vint: A rare pre-WWII, early 20th c American folk art, vint, hnd crvd & hnd pntd, stationary head, B & W Common Merganser Drake sporting duck decoy, fashioned from white cedar, w/a white pntd underside of the decoy's flat baseplate. It remains absolutely, 100% untouched & as it was when it & a number of other early, hnd crvd & hnd pntd wdn sporting duck decoys were removed from the home. It was fashioned in 2 pts, w/the head & body being crvd separately & then attached at the base of the neck. The decoy boasts 2 intact, semi-transparent amber glass eyes. The hnd pntd B/W body, insinuates the bi-color, B/W feathers on the lower body of the Common Merganser Drake duck, w/its hallmark, characteristic, laid down tuft of feathers at the back of its head, lending it its distinctive form. Present is highly detailed crvd plumage. All orig paint & surfaces. A very scarce, American vint sporting dck decoy & a scarce Common Merganser Drake decoy. Very handsome. Very fine.”
