In general, the Chat-R-Box is a good tool for finding irrigation valves. It works as advertised and makes the solenoid click to help with finding the “lost” valve. That being said, the method has limitations. Some solenoids are louder than others. Mine were pretty quiet so know this going in. If the valve box is under a significant amount of dirt/grass, then it may be difficult to find it.

I had never been able to find one of the Hunter jar type valves in my irrigation system that was installed in 2006. Recently this zone would not shut off. I ordered Chatter-Box, and it worked just as advertised. Valve was in a little silo whose top was 2 inches underground with lawn grass growing over it. I was able to quickly locate its underground position and repair the valve. Good instructions came with the product.
