  • Lust for Life

Lust for Life is the story of impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh. It stars Kirk Douglas in an impassioned portrayal of a man driven by the desire to create. Van Gogh is famous for his bold use of color and light, but his unorthodox paintings bring rejection from the art community. He lives off the charity of his devoted brother, Theo, and sells only one painting in a life prematurely ended by suicide. This is a powerful study of genius brought to life by Kirk Douglas' great talent. I bought this movie to show an art class of senior citizens who were both moved and inspired. The movie showcases Van Gogh's great paintings with a beautiful musical score.

Even Anthony Quinn's rendition of artist Paul Gaugin is completely realistic, arrogant artist that he was, leaving a wife and many children to pursue his art, eventually dying from syphillis. I bought it on vhs, but I will eventually purchase the dvd. Whatever the medium, Kirk Douglas' is Van Gogh. I ...
