Two runs for the DVD?
The 2004 DVD has a good English dubbed track, better English subtitles you can use while you watch it in Japanese, and is an interesting movie before you get to the extras, but the extras take it WAY over interesting to the very, very interesting stage-- how they did some of the stunts-- and not really a spoiler, but some of the obvious if it was American made "wire stunts with CGI cleanup" turn out to be real stunts, no wire, no CGI. Think of it as a good story, elements borrowed from several other movies, and a good result as a stand alone item. There is one "spoiler" warning-- about a third of the way in there is a scene that just jars since it is so out of place and makes no sense. Hang on to the end-- it is not out of place, it does fit, and although absurd ... returner,the future could be history
The story is the real star of the picture.The actors are in top form and the directing is excellent.If you like strange off the normal sci-fi this movie will put a smile on your face. Ok so there could have been just a little more special effects but the movie is about humans and the challange of survival. More effects would have taken away from that and I think it's better when there's less to punch the story up.But this story is fun all in it's own and doesn't need Returner 3,4,5,6,7,8,9. so grab some popcorn and enjoy :)The story is the real star of the picture.The actors are in top form and the directing is excellent.If you like strange off the normal sci-fi this movie will put a smile on your face.
