Vintage concert is appealing, despite minor flaws
When Todd Rundgren's band Utopia moved from a six-piece progressive rock ensemble to a tighter four-piece pop-rock outfit in the late 1970s, their songs became more commercially appealing, even if their stage shows got a little less theatric (compared to, say, the Egyptian-themed tour for their RA album in 1977) as time went on. Todd's fan base continued to grow, and arguably reached its peak in 1980 with Adventures In Utopia. With Roger Powell (keyboards and vocals), Kasim Sulton (bass guitar, vocals) and John "Willie" Wilcox (drums, vocals), Todd Rundgren (guitar, vocals) continued to write and produce high quality albums, while simultaneously producing other acts and releasing his own solo material. This DVD showcases the elements that made Utopia a popular act ... (Rumors spread a few years ago that Utopia would reunite, a rumor that was crushed by Rundgren and Sulton's inclusion in the formation of The New Cars, with former Cars members Elliot Easton and Greg Hawkes.) With two sets that focus on the new album and Todd's catalog to date, this show will rock you to the core. The only drawback is that the quality of the film isn't what you'd expect from a DVD. Like a lot of bands from the '70s, there are some performances that are only available on film that has degraded over time, with the hope that the quality and scarcity of the performance would outweigh the technical glitches of then-current technology as it was restored to DVD. In this case, it works, but not without several sound and video issues. If you enjoy Utopia at their best, and can live with some occasional audio and visual dropouts, this is a good watch, and will bring you back to a time when Todd Rundgren and company were at the top of their game. If you need to have higher quality, I'd suggest An Evening With Utopia, which was only released in VHS in the mid-1980s, detailing a 1983 performance from their eponymous album from the same year, Utopia.

Todd fan finds a little Utopia!!!!!
Todd Rundgren DVDs' have been hard to find so when I saw this available on e-Bay, I thought I would give it a try. The film quality is not the best but it gives you a full concert of Todd and Utopia. The song set is Great and the sound quality is good as well. The real bonus is the interview with Todd. If you are a fan, it's worth the price of less than one concert ticket or 1 CD.

A very good performance with a large volume of songs
A really good look back at some of their best work. I was surprised at the volume of music on one DVD. If you like Utopia this is a must. I couldn't find anything better for the body of work I was looking for from their Oops wrong planet album. The one thing I didn't like is the obvious affect of the 80's that had effected the band. I saw them in the mid 70's and they were a much better performance then less 80's glitzy. I wish I could fine an earlier performance.A really good look back at some of their best work. i own this dvd already and i think it is awesome! todds voice is strong and he shows his amazing talent going from guitar to drums (gangreen) and then to piano (bag lady) watching this takes me back to a simplier time and great memories! todd was doing videos years before mtv. todd is god!!
