A Hilarious Collection of Steve Martin's Humor Essays
Pure Drivel by Steve Martin is among my favorite books. If you like Martin's films and comedy, you're sure to love this book, because it's one funny essay after another. Martin treats a wide range of topics, from the writing process and the feelings of the words and letters on the page to his failure to contact Mensa and a wily Filipino. There are plenty of great one-liners and gags which develop throughout the course of an essay, getting funnier and funnier. My favorite essay in Pure Drivel is "Yes, in My Own Backyard," in which Steve is convinced that his birdbath was sculpted by Raphael. After mistakenly traveling to the Parthenon, he visits Raphael's tomb in the Pantheon and actually gets an answer from the master sculptor! Whenever I happen to see this book on my shelf, I pick ... Pure Drivel by Steve Martin is among my favorite books. If you like Martin's films and comedy, you're sure to love this book, because it's one funny essay after another. I also have a great time reading passages aloud to my mom, who enjoys this book too. They say laughing is good for your health. Read Pure Drivel and you'll never have to worry about an apple a day.

Pure Drivel by Steve Martin is as flexible in its subject matter as its writer is in his professional life. Martin sets aside his Wild and Crazy Guy appearances on Saturday Night Live, and his arrows-through-his-head humor, to create a thoughtful, witty, and wry text which is good for several laughs per page. Many of the essays in this book have been gleaned from the New Yorker and are hilariously funny and intelligent. The verbal images Martin paints on each page's canvas are the stuff of genius, and evidence of his work as a playwright and screenwriter. For a real treat, share the mirth by reading these essays aloud to someone. Matin's years as a comedian enable him to provide a volume filled with perfectly timed punchlines; even in print. book instead of cd
i was disapointed because i am 90% sure i ordered the cd and not the book. big disapointment. i cant verify if i made the mistake in ordering the product since the invoice does not describe if it is a book or cd that i ordered. i got it the day befor christmass and had no option but to give it as the gift. not happy.
