Quality on a Budget
First off, it's fairly easy to set up. There's a "Quick Set-up" lay-out on paper, and there's an easy to navigate CD Rom with ALL you'll need to know. I have surround speakers on 30' of cable and they sound great. My speakers are 6 ohms so I get a boost in wattage. Plenty of power for any speakers in the same or slightly higher budget range. I haven't had mine for long, so I'm still learning, but the system is easy to get around in. The remote is laid out to navigate from music to blu-rays to tv with ease. No Wi-Fi ,but the features, quality and the power for the price, you'll enjoy.First off, it's fairly easy to set up. Good for the price
I have owned Yamaha amps in the past, and have been satisfied in general, although I wish they had a longer life. The volume seemed low until I did research and understood that it goes another 16 db above the zero setting, although I am not advising it. When I compared it to my other amp that maxes out at zero and cranked it up another 16 db, the volume was comparable, that is, a setting of -20 db was the same as -36 db on the other amp rated at 75 watts RMS at 8 ohms. Others have praised the input selection buttons over the dial, but I prefer the dial as I have run the cable and Blu-Ray inputs through the TV and audio back to the amp, and have trouble remembering which input is which. I rated it easy to use because the only other choice is no, and I seem to be the only one who thinks its ... Pretty good receiver with some drawbacks
I love the AirPlay. That was one of the primary reasons I got it. But there are several drawbacks: Networking is wired only. You have to go up a model number to get wifi support. You can't listen to the audio of an HDMI source if the HDMI output (my TV) isn't on. I want to use Chromecast to listen to YouTube Red music streams, and it forces me to watch the video. The remote control won't work my Yamaha BluRay player out of the box. I need to figure out how to program it, which is annoying. excellent buy on a discontinued 2014 Yamaha model
I bought two of these receivers at $250 each for my two sons. One was used in a modest home theater setup with Cambridge Audio speakers The other one was paired up with some Music Hall Marimba speakers and a Denon CD player. I have been impressed with the Yamaha brand since 1981. This was a great buy on last year's 5.1 model, nearly a 50% discount. Kudos to Newegg for its great sale prices.
