Item pictured was incorrect from what I received. I’m being generous with two stars since socks were same brand, new but incorrect color. I contacted seller and was given a brushed-off response. This is the first time in almost 20 years using eBay that I’ve had a negative experience. I’m not going to make a huge deal about a $13 item but BUYERS BEWARE OF THIS SELLER.

This is disturbing story about a young girl coming of age in a family where incest & abuse are a regular occurance of everyday life. Hard to read sometimes, graphic language, but a story that needs to be told. It is a story of shame, hope, & eventually redemption, that makes the reader long for a sequel to see how Precious fares in her new life. Overall I would recommend this book, but for adults only.

  • A Disappointment

I bought this book because of the film, which I saw and liked. The book, how- ever, was a huge disappointment. It is poorly written and very difficult to read. This is not because of the sub-standard English of the characters, however, because the reader gets used to that after awhile. The novel has no shape or structure and is very badly organized. I do not believe that Sapphire is a writer of any talent. She has fashioned some very incendiary material into a book, but that does not make it valuable. Form and content must go hand in hand and this book only has the latter. It was excrutiating to read.

  • Push is really a push to get through the book.

This book was a very rough read. The story itself was as expected. The character's story was very difficult to read as it was written in her voice. The author used extreme language that helped flesh out Precious, but was just gross. The book was difficult to follow as paragraphs flip-flopped back and forth without clear transitions. The story was hard to read as there were mispellings all over the place (but was character appropriate and a clear reflection of Precious' confusion, ignorance, and anger). For the small amount of pages, this was a very slow read. I had to pick through the paragraphs in order to follow. At times my stomach turned while reading this book. If you are not into reading about detailed child abuse, racism, or simple foulness, this book is not for you. This story ...

  • Speechless.....

This was a very good book, but the content is quite disturbing. Very very real, but because of that at times I had to put the book down and take a break for my mind to comprehend a parent like this. I'll say this....KUDO'S to the young woman for persevering and raising herself to a whole new realm of humanness that her parents certainly tried to keep her from. A story of amazing cruelty, strength, overcoming adversity and triumph. You WILL experience a whole range of emotions for this amazing young woman. I'd read it again.

  • Push by Sapphire

Very good book written in first person about an illterate, overweight teenage mother who has suffered physical and sexual abuse at the hands of her mother and father. After being put into a GED programm she connects with a eacher her truly cares about her well being and she takes you along on her journey as she takes stock of who she is, why she is who she is and finding her place in a society where she has previously been invisible. So well written but not always easy to understand, I found it very hard to put it down. Great read.
