Burt Reynolds plays Wood Newton, an ex-football player who returns to his sleepy hometown of Evening Shade, Arkansas, to settle down. But domestic life with his wife Ava (Marilu Henner), and a new career as a high school football coach, may be more challenging than he thinks. The Evening Shade Mules haven't won a game in years, and though life in the town may be quiet, it still has its share of eccentric oddballs: Evan (Hal Holbrook), the local newspaper magnate (and Wood's father-in-law); Taylor (Jay R. Ferguson), the overcautious high-school quarterback; Harlan (Charles Durning), the grouchy town doctor; and of course Ponder Blue (Ossie Davis), the town's philosophical restaurateur and the show's narrator. This collection presents the first season of the charming 1990s sitcom.

Funny Series starring Burt Reynolds and a great supporting cast.
Funny show with a great cast. I had actually forgotten about it until Burt Reynolds passed away and then I read about this series. Would highly recommend it. I researched until I found a brand new version with a great price.

Quiet GEM~ better than I ever expected~ HOMEtown FUN
Season ONE of the series which went from 1990-1994~ I loved this dvd set~ Coach Wood Newton (Burt Reynolds) a VERY former winning football star is now the "loosing" home town football coach~ wife (Marilu Henner) as the local DA~ excellent laughs~ hold up over time` since the laughs are funny and low key~ great writing~ great stars in small town characters, Ozzie Davis, Charles During~ Elizabeth Ashley~ the basic couple is fun BUT THEY ADD side characters and they all "blend" to make this a fun watch~ this set is Welcome~ and you will love it I can hardly wait for the other three seasons no doubt it will take years to get them released~ LOL I recall this a top series and then it came out Burt was dumping Loni and the back lash was awful it helped derail this series and his career for ...
