    Original, scary, but starts slow

    DEAD BIRDS has some stellar moments and some that miss the mark. On the plus side, props for originality. It's a haunted house picture (actually, an entire haunted plantation), set in 1863. It starts rather slowly, with a bank robbery in an Alabama town. This is interesting enough if you like Westerns, but if you crave a spooky, gory horror film, you may snooze through the first half. The second half is almost like a separate movie: fast moving, supernatural, and with some very grotesque special effects. I also sense that the filmmakers were trying too hard to make an art-house film. The title DEAD BIRDS is (I think!) an obscure reference to slaves and children being dispensible; if they're dead, it's no worse than dead birds. This is supposedly conveyed when one of ...

    Disappointing..........

    This is another one of the horror movies that I've watched based on reviews and what others have said, and again I've been disappointed. This movie starts out very slow and pretty much stays that way throughout the whole show. The only thing that kept me interested was the extremely creepy faces of the children, otherwise I probably would have given this movie an even lower rating. If you must see this, don't expect to see a scary movie, expect to see a western/cowboy movie with 5 seconds of thrills. This movie had the potential to be a horror movie, it had a decent cast, decent story, but it was missing all the key elements of a horror movie gore/thrills/chills. Please rent this do not buy, if you must see it! Grade: D-

    Dead Birds DVD

    For a low budget horror film this one was a very nice surprise.The movie flows evenly and is full of "Jump Out" surprises.The story is good and the acting is very good as well.The story is set in Civil War times and the story mostly takes place in and around an old plantation.I wont go into all the details which would spoil the surprises if you have not seen the movie.Anyway if you like a good horror movie that is not the same old slasher movies and one that makes you jump a few times than this is the one.Maybe it wont be remembered as a classic but it sure is a movie that will keep your interest thru out the full 91 minutes.
