About this product

Product Information

Known in Japan since the days of the original PlayStation, Career Soft's Growlanser series teams up on North American PS2s in this special two-game release. Included are both Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice and Growlanser III: The Dual Darkness; cult hits in across the Pacific but previously unavailable to North American gamers.

The games follow many conventions of the tactical role-playing style, including an isometric perspective, squad-based battles between diverse parties, a complicated system of cause and effect as fights play out, and customizable character development. However, Growlanser boasts enormous campaign worlds and open-ended stories that distinguish it from many more familiar strategy role-playing games.

Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice is set in a fantasy realm in which magic rings are used as weapons and war threatens three neighboring kingdoms. Growlanser III: The Dual Darkness is set back in the beginning of the game world's history, and offers an enhanced battle system that allows players to explore towns and randomly generated dungeons.

All good RPGs tell a story, but only some allow the player to truly influence the story's outcome. Whether a formal face-off or a random encounter, each battle in Growlanser may have long-range consequences. The developer boasts the games must be completed at least twice for players to see even half of the possible events and outcomes the game world offers.

    growlanser generations

I love old school JRPGs, and I love Working Designs' voice acting and localization. I didn't manage to get this game when I was younger, but I'm so happy to have it now. The characters are likeable, the story is compelling, the graphics are charming (pixels aged better than the 3D graphics) and most importantly, the gameplay is a blast.

  • Very Addictive Game

I decided to buy Growlanser: Generations because I love RPGs and because this game had gotten consistently good reviews. I was not disappointed. From the minute I started playing it, I was hooked. For those of you who love FF Tactics, this game will be very familiar, and though some might not like this fact, others will enjoy it fully, as I have. Even the music is very reminiscent of FF Tactics. This game consists of two parts, technically Growlanser 2 and Growlanser 3. They were both originally on another platform, and the graphics that result from porting it over to the PS2 are probably the only disappointing thing. The graphics, however, do not detract from playability. Growlanser 2 is addictive right from the beginning. Growlanser 3 brings a pleasant change from Growlanser 2 - you ...

  • If you Love Strategy RPGs, this game is a must have!

Reviewed for Big Boss Games by: TRC Growlanser Generations is split into two games, Growlanser 2 and 3. This review is of Growlanser 2. After a long delay of this game, Working Designs has released Growlanser Generations and it is well worth the wait. If you love strategy RPGs this game is a must have. Because of it’s griping story and great game-play. You start out as Wein Cruz, a young boy with a dream of becoming an Imperial Knight. The music in the game is perfect. Although the voice acting was laughable, it was still funny at times. Good-bye battle grid, you have free roam over the battlefield. Your game uses navigation points to move from town to dungeon and back again. The strategy aspect of this game goes from easy to pulling out your hair hard after a few battles. The Graphics ...

  • Growlanser: A game of enjoyment, strategy, and educational qualities.

I am not a heavy gamer, and usually spend my time doing other things. But when it comes to video games, there is one game (besides Rock Band and Fable) that really stands out. Growlanser is a profound, incredible product of the imagination. Its original, complex, and deep story line, its high-quality voice acting and script, the entertaining game play, and the overall enjoyment that this game radiates make it quite exceptional. I highly recommend this game to any gamer and fan of RPGs. A must to have in your library of games. Not only is it entertaining, but it is also quite educational. One can always be educated with various ideas from games, and Growlanser is no different, as one can learn new words and slang, and learning how to conduct one's self in a conversation (like Fable, one ...

  • Great Game if you like Final Fantasy Tactics...

Let's just say if you don't like Final Fantasy Tactics then you are not going to like this game. This consist of 2 games: Growlanser II and Growlanser III! When first looking at it yes the graphics are a bit out of date but, are still appealing! The music for both in my opinion was pretty good and I wouldn't mind buying the soundtrack (I don't buy many soundtracks). The game play works simular to FF: Tactics on the world map for Growlanser II but, Growlanser III is more like a regular Final Fantasy where you have the freedom of walking and entering towns. On the battle field with there are some differences from FF: Tactics. Unlike in FF: Tactics where you can only move so many blocks at a time, in Growlanser II and III you can either click and choose an attack and that character will walk ...
