    An excellent purchase, true to its acclaim as a classic

    This movie is a classic. Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella was one of Julie Andrews original roles. She is as charming as ever as Cinderella. The film had originally aired once for television viewers and then disappeared into oblivion until someone decided to release it on DVD. I was delighted to find it on ebay and watch it. The quality is somewhat scratchy as it was extremely old film that was almost lost forever. However, the talent is evident by the beauty of the music and the humor of the acting. I think many would enjoy this film, especially families and fans of Julie Andrews.

    As a Julie Andrews fan I've been building my DVD collection of her movies. To see her young performing in a live TV production is brilliant. By the end of 1967, Julie Andrews had appeared in the most-watched television special, Cinderella; the biggest Broadway musical of its time, My Fair Lady; the largest-selling long-playing album, the original cast recording of My Fair Lady; the biggest hit in Disney's history, Mary Poppins; the biggest and second biggest hits in Universal's history, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Torn Curtain; and the biggest hit in 20th Century Fox's history and the most successful film of all time, The Sound of Music.     Any movie with Julie Andrew's is more than worth the expense.

    When I started looking at R&H Cinderella videos, I wasn't aware that Julie Andrew's had started in one of the productions available. So, of course, I had to order it. It has slightly different plot and musical selections, But I still like it.

    Pure Vintage Perfection

    With the popularity of the new Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella Broadway Production, this is a rare treasure that fans need. This film has been remade twice: first with Lesley Warren and later with Brandy in the 1990's. This is the ORIGINAL production that Mr. Rodgers and Mr. Hammerstein produced back in the 1950's. I think it is a necessity to have next to the other two versions. Also, this film is rare and hard to find. When you see one for sale, grab it! Only complaint: when this originally aired, it was in beautiful technicolor on TV. All that exists now is the black and white negatives from the film. Even though the DVD does not show the original glory, it is still a great film with the talent of Julie Andrews.
