    Leaving The Pain Behind!

Farrah Fawcett is at her best in this movie! The reality and drama of this story is the lives of many women who are abused and the children who are deeply affected from it. This movie brings out into the open the realization of what life on the dark side is like, the side no one likes to talk about, or those who are too frighten to speak of. This movie is based back in the day that what went on behind closed doors stayed behind closed doors. Great job Farrah!

  • Farrah is superb in The Burning Bed, A Must See!

Back when this film first aired 25 years ago, I was skeptical that I would like this film. I was shocked by Ms. Fawcett's performance. I rooted for her character. I wanted her to get away from her abusing husband. Paul LeMat plays that abusive husband you'd love to take a whack at. I was glad that she did what she had to to get away from him. It leaves you with a lump in your throat. This film marked the second of Ms. Fawcett's serious roles that she would do in her career (the fist serious role was in 1980's Murder In Texas). We lost Farrah this year to cancer at the age of 62. You don't have to be a fan of Ms. Fawcett's to add this film to your movie library, you just have to like good, well made films. This film is based on actual characters and events. The MGM DVD of this film features ...

  • Big dramatic tile befitting a desperate move by Fawcett's character.

This movie belongs in all feminist film study courses. It blew the secrecy off domestic violence and the early social/legal responses of blaming the victim for failing to get away, or to protect her children. Safe shelters were founded, eventually.

  • It tells you what it is about without giving it away.

Farrah Fawcett depicts the battered housewife in such a realistic way, the movie didn't seem hokey or too graphic. The Burning Bed gives you real life lessons of what battered women go through every day, the feeling like it's their fault, the guilty feeling of taking the kids away from their father, peer pressure from people who don't think it's such a big thing, and the "if I were a better wife he'd be a better husband" concept. I wish more women could see this movie if nothing else to know that they're not alone and that help is out there. The main character's strength reveals that we all can be suprised at what strengths we have inside us. The bad thing is that it went too far when she couldn't take it anymore and murdered her ex-husband. Helping battered women have come along way ...

  • it was a great realistic movie

I was her one day ,I lived the life she lived in the movie, I know how she felt . I had to stay in it till my kids got big enough to catch the school bus by their self . All my kids said when they got older was why did you stay in it? I had no where to go. I was basicly a only child and my parents could not handle the stress my exhusband would put on them my dad had heart problems. so I was on my own . I can relate to the way she felt and i am sure I am not the only one. This goes to show how many women bed for help and no one listens when they take the matter in their own hands even with a paper trail then they go to jail thats not right. its self defense but the police dont rule that way. That is a sad way to have to live it takes a sorry low down man to hit a women and beat on her , ...
