young john voight at his best
This film features John Voight and several other known and unfamiliar actors giving fine performances. This must have been one of Voight's first feature films and he gives the type of realistic portrayal that neophytes give. This alone makes the film work viewing. If you want to learn or remember what 1963 Germany was like, if hunting ex-nazis peaks your interest, if you like to see bad guys get killed by good guys, this is your film. But...despite what the previous info on this page reads, the beginning of the film clearly states that the book and the film are based on historical facts, BUT THIS STORY IS FICTION.This film features John Voight and several other known and unfamiliar actors giving fine performances. My wife was born there during WW II and could relate to the story.
I just finished reading the novel and wanted to see the movie. I also like the actor, John Voight. The foreign actress Maria Shell, although she had only a small part, was always a favorite of mine. I enjoyed the film, however the book was so much more informative and exciting. I learned a lot of history and realize that people never learn not to kill each other.
