    not quite that heavenly

    There are some interesting duets here, but not all of the creativity works out well. While this is certainly a rockin' CD, some of the songs are a bit disappointing. The epic guitar solos, while fantastic, have been recorded high and are louder than the accompaniment at all times. Although this strange mix does feature Santana aptly, his guitar can be ear-splitting at times. A better balance with the guest singers would have helped. However, while some of the versions are just beefed-up shredders, Santana does add some interesting interpretation periodically. With some Latino beats and bluesy additions, he makes his mark. However, some songs stay true while others are a bit overwrought. Riders on the Storm and Smoke on the Water take the most getting used to.
