  • excellent and comprehensive.

i have a master's in comparative politics with russian emphasis and a russian history minor. let me just say how much i love this book. there is a slight bias towards the romanovs, however, his ideas are backed by fact. further, this is a very easy read. when i fist read this book over 10 years ago i could NOT put it down. massie is an excellent story teller. i have come back to this book many times for pleasure and scholarship. i recently lost mine in a move and have purchased another copy. for any russophile, this is a must have.

  • Good Read

A well-written, not overly academic study of the last Tsar and Tsarina of Russia. Provides a wonderful, in-depth look at who these people were and why they made the decisions they did that eventually lead to the collapse of the Russian autocracy.
