The DW Drums Collector's Series Aluminum Snare Drum is a high-quality and versatile centerpiece for any drummer's trap set. It is an excellent option for everything from pop and dance music to hard rock, heavy blues, and smooth jazz. This line of workhorse snare drums aim to be adaptable to any style of music without much adjustment or tuning. It was also designed specifically to achieve sound qualities similar to the legendary gear heard in many vintage recordings. With a full complement of premium DW features, this drum from the Collector's Series Metal line is a popular favorite. The shell is 1mm thick aluminum with a rolled bearing edge and snare beds as well as a soft powder-coat. The thin shell adds resonance and additional overtones for more character, which allows technical drummers to achieve much more expression. It is a very crisp sounding drum, with a clear affinity for mid- to high-end tone frequencies and ringing overtones. At 6.5 inches deep, it provides great projection with ample volume to cut through the mix with a strong crack. The matte gray powder-coated finish sets a beautiful base to be offset by the shinier, polished hoops, and lug hardware. The rest of the hardware is all polished chrome, making the 10 circular lugs around the sides really stand out. DW's proprietary True-Pitch tuning rods feature significantly more threads than standard rods, with 10/32 threads instead of 10/24. This allows for finer control through the tuning process to ensure that the perfect drum tone can be easily achieved. The True Hoop designed counter hoops on these snare drums are the product of extensive crafting over 18 months of development. The result is a round and flat hoop that is much more consistent than stamped ones for more consistent tuning. Hoop trueness is directly tied to the tuning of the head, which is why so much emphasis was placed here. An additional visual flourish on the hoops are the fully rounded outer edges that flange outward all the way around. Aside from being visually appealing, these edges are also a bit kinder on drumsticks during rim shots and cross sticking. The True-Tone snares on this aluminum drum are also custom crafted by DW to achieve perfect contact with the heads. The stainless-steel wires are crafted to achieve a superior response, and the brass end-plates hold them evenly in place. The MAG throw-off system and the 3P butt plate allow for a range of positioning for the custom snare wires. Since 3P stands for "three positions," the sound can be adjusted quickly on the fly for different styles of music. Once you’ve enjoyed this feature, you’ll wonder how you lived without it.
