Great first pair of birding binoculars.

I have never owned a good pair of binoculars and after using these off and on for a couple weeks I am wondering why I waited so long (I am in my 60s). The optics are excellent and I am astonished how easy it is with these 8x42s to follow a bird or flock of birds in flight. I still have a lot to learn about birding but I feel I now have the right equipment to pursue this. Low light performance is really impressive. The one minor complaint I would have is the low quality ocular lens cap, which has a tendency to pop off. Overall, outstanding pair of binoculars.

  • watching and learning

These are not very expensive (vs. the EDG line) but seem like a very good set. 22.9 ounces is fairly light for an 8 X 42. we like the wide field of view of 420 feet and ability to close focus to see something only 8.2 feet away. They seem very sturdy. The curved body fits in my large hands and also my wife's very small hands. The Nikon Monarch family has three levels: 3, 5 and 7. The FOV on the 7 is much wider than the other two, The provided strap is wide and comfortable- but it takes a while to get it attached with the provided lens cap. It turns out that we have a lot of birds in our yard (including a red-tailed hawk) and that is what we have been watching so far. We bought these on line at a $100 savings from the store price. We bought these to use on a safari trip to Southern Africa. ...

  • The Nikon Monarch 7 8x42 binocular is an excellent product

The Nikon Monarch 7 8x42 is an excellent product. Optically it is a great performer. Only a little bit of chromatic aberration is noticed against backlight objects. Hardly noticeable at all. The focus ring is buttery smooth, very easy and light to adjust. Optics are sharp and bright although not as bright as the Zeiss Conquest HD but very near. Field of view is great.

  • Great for archery

These binos are great for archery. I was running the 10x42 swaro EL's but were just too big and bulky for my archery AZ mule deer hunts. I wanted something small, light, and with great glass. I was going to go with the 8×30 Swaro CL but then I found the monarchs. At 1/3 the price, it boasts a larger field of view than the CL's and come with outstanding clarity. The focus knobs are tight and responsive. While yhe monarchs may not be quite as bright or clear as the cl's in low light situations, they are pretty darn close. I needed a binicular that was small enough to be unnoticeable when stalking through the desert on my hands and knees, yet clear and powerful enough to determine what is ahead of me during my stalk. This is not a binocular that I would reccomend for big country ...

  • Great optics!

I have been birding for about 15 years using now discontinued Audubon Equinox binoculars The Nikon Monarch 7 binoculars have an incredible field of view & perform especially well in low light conditions where colors are much more brilliant with these than with my previous binoculars. They are also lightweight and well-balanced. I am extremely happy with them!
