About this product

Product Information

"Gauntlet Dark Legacy" for Nintendo GameCube brings all of the action of the classic RPG style arcade game into the home with better graphics and improved gameplay. Up to four people can participate. Players battle an onslaught of evil trolls, goblins, and skeletons while playing as a warrior, dwarf, sorceress, jester, or other chosen character. The backstory of the game is steeped in fantasy mythology. In long ago days, a great evil was released into the world by a demon and still exists. Players must gather twelve runestones that have been scattered far and wide. Only when this quest is completed can the land be free of evil again. Sumner is a good king, and it is for him that players are fighting. He controls the eight realms of his kingdom from his tower. Players are able to enter different worlds from Sumner's tower. Information about the history of each of these worlds is revealed through brief video sequences before the new world is entered. Players have the power to control different professions of everyone in the game. These include archers, warrior, valkyries, and wizards. Each profession brings unique strengths and weaknesses. For example, wizards start with strong powers in magic, and archers have fast speed. Each character, regardless of type, holds powers in the areas of armor, speed, strength, and magic. Armor protects and speed enables swift attacks. Strength and magic are both used to damage enemies. These attributes are increased as you level up and strengthen your legacy throughout the game. Once a fight has begun, players have several options of how they will conduct their attack. You can mix and match the variables of fast, slow, strong, and weak to put together a custom attack. These combo attacks are stronger than attacks based on one variable. Strafing, blocking, and charging are also options in battle. Strong players can defend themselves and inflict damage simultaneously with the same move. Choices of weapons used to slash through the dark hordes of enemies include sword and ax. Magic spells can also be strategically cast to cut everyone down to size. Power ups can be found in over 60 stages of gameplay. They increase health and take out enemies when their numbers become too many. Gameplay differs between realms. In some cases, players simply race straight down paths and fight whatever gets in their way. In other locations; however, players must navigate mazes. Along the way, players seek to gather up magical items which can give them additional powers. Players must also gather food for sustenance. Treasure can be used as currency to buy food or weapons at shops. The enemies vary by the level or world they are encountered in. A magical generator creates enemies even as they are killed. It is only when the generator is destroyed that enemies stop being created. "Gauntlet Dark Legacy" was the last video game within the Gauntlet series of games to be released in arcades. "Dark Legacy" added four new character classes: sorceress, knight, jester, and dwarf as well as five new levels. This Nintendo GameCube recreation has stayed true to the charm of the Gauntlet arcade game while offering the features and functionality needed for a home console based game. In addition to the GameCube, this game is also available for the Xbox and the PlayStation 2.

    FUN!

This game has it all in terms of multiplayer fun in a great fantasy setting. Highly recommended for retro gamers! Seems to work perfectly on my Nintendo Wii as well.

  • An arcade classic well ported onto the home console...

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy is at heart a mindless hack n' slash. Sure, there's leveling up, but games like Pokemon even surpass it in character depth and customization. If one looks at reviews around the internet by professional gaming websites, the scores may seem relatively low compared to most other "successful" games out there. All that being said however, Gauntlet is a great time killer of a purchase. Essentially, you're going through about 60 levels or so hacking, slashing, opening gates, and collecting various items. For every 5 commonly themed levels, one will then encounter a boss tied to the same theme as the "realm" of the 5 levels just completed. These realms are your orthodox medieval/Greek/mythology based theme designs, with stereotypical enemies one would assume would dwell ...

great game for a saturday! why you ask?...it takes up loads of time...but the levels for 2002 graphics look like 2007 graphics! if you love RPGS and you have the platform to play it on i suggest you buy it! plus some other fun features are muliplayer action and the game rating is T just for the explosions and small amounts of blood that i dont pay attention too. overall 5/5 but still could use 1...2... more features i'd buy it for a price that it's worth like... $23.00 to $26.95 if you can get a lower price than that...GOOD DEAL! :

  • Awesome!

  • Great next to the N64 but with more of everything. Sharper colorfuler need more GL on Switch no DLC

Okay so here is the deal. Playing this game via disc stand alone provides no "jumping of sound" and runs smooth. It is way better then the Dreamcast game but that being said many graphics improved. However there are things about the N64 game I miss a lot ( a lot ). Like no FMV, cut scenes ( which could have been rendered fully in the GCN version. The uneeded graphics. The exit from the load screen ( that chime plays with your reappearance animation while the N64 version is silent with another sound ) where the N64 plays it right when exiting. The warp where your character model minimize ( where the N64 version makes it gold but in the GCN the entire character minimize then turns gold ). I am looking forward to a Switch version of this game or possible MMORPG with the same exact visual ...
