Great parody
I was fascinated by Frank Herbert's Dune, so it was interesting to read the other view on the book. Doon follows the composition of the original very closely, having transformed the main ideas and notions (a.e. beer instead of spice, restoraunt business instead of spice trade etc.), there is much less blood in it, and the majority of the characters killed in the original work are only imprisoned if at all. The language of the book is full of comic figures of speach such as oxymoron, pun, tautology etc. Ellis Weiner also made a lot of fun of the epigraphs before each chapter. The book is easily read thank to its humour but to feel the author's intention fully one shold read Dune first and Doon shortly after.
