About this product

Product Information

Name this Game is an enjoyable little underwater shooter with a not-so-little foe: a giant octopus. Players assume the role of a diver as he swims back and forth near the bottom of the screen, firing upward at the octopus' tentacles, which are blocky, but big, with a tendency to re-grow. The more imperative task is to shoot a shark as it swims across the screen, slowly making its way toward the diver. If the shark reaches the diver, it will carry him off in his mouth with the diver's legs flailing in agony. Another consideration is frequent oxygen replenishment, which is achieved by touching a line released from a boat floating on the surface. The action can get monotonous over time, and the game could use a few more sea creatures, but simple controls, nice graphics (the shark looks great, bubbles come out of the diver's tank), and challenging gameplay (without a lick of frustration) make this one of U.S. Games' better titles. Speaking of titles, the company held a contest back in the day to name this game, but it was never released under the winning moniker of "Octopus."

Item was shipped immediately and well packaged in a box that fit. If shipping appears high compared to others this is the reason. I have received quality knives in a paper envelope which was torn in shipping. This won’t happen with this seller. When received it was smaller than listed. I contacted him with almost immediate response. He acknowledged had made an error and made it right. I ended up buying a knife that fits the sheath! Highly recommend this seller!

Received the vintage car model today. Packaged well and described as pictured. I like the original price still on the box, 8.99! I feel this purchase was well worth it considering today’s prices. Thanks so much. 👍👍👍

  • An average 2600 game

This is a good little game it works it plays well you most likely played many other games like it but it does what It does well. Great for 1982. You are a scuba diver on the bottom of the ocean. Shooting an octopus whos tenticles grow steadly and a shark who gets faster as gets closer to the end of the screen. You have an oxygen that is refilled by a snorcle on a boat.

  • Game is notable for its cartridge design and backstory, not its gameplay.

Also known as "Octopus", this game involves blasting away at the tentacles of an octopus, and defending yourself from a threatening shark. Your sidekick in the boat above will occasionally drop you a line - literally - which will refresh your oxygen supply. The "oxygen supply" concept works well in this game, but the rest of the gameplay doesn't really gel together. The game is notable for its cartridge design, as well as its "Name this game and win $10,000" contest. But as far as sound, graphics, or gameplay, this game doesn't quite deliver. An average game overall; the stories surrounding it are more interesting than the game itself.
