What you see is all you get
I purchased this book thinking that it would be the so-called "bible" for slipcovers. I was particularly interested in making fitted slipcovers for furniture such as sofas, chairs, etc. You know, the kind of slipcovers that include details such as seams with piping, slipcovers contoured to the features of the chair/sofa. I was interested in how to measure and draft slipcover patterns to fit odd-shaped easy chairs. Please take a good, long look at the cover picture on this book and also be aware that the pictured slipcover is the ONLY slipcover for furniture in this book. This particular project was the very last one in this book and even then only a brief amount of information was provided. Other projects in this book included making covers for pillows, making a covered cushion from ... I purchased this book thinking that it would be the so-called "bible" for slipcovers. Other projects in this book included making covers for pillows, making a covered cushion from scratch. Additionally, most of the suggested items to purchase for the projects can only be purchased in England or Europe. Even with the cushion projects, very little detail as to how to construct the item was provided. Essentially, this is a very superficial book and is lacking in detail. I think the word "bible" is deliberately included in the title to trick someone into buying the book--particularly those of us who purchase items via the Internet. If you are looking for a book that covers (no pun intended) making cushions, pillows or making "slipcovers" for them, then you may want to consider this book. If so, then I highly recommend seeing if this book is available in your local library before ever considering purchasing it. After you see what it has--or more specifically--after you see what it does NOT cover, you may or may not want to spend your hard-earned money on this. If you do decide to purchase this book, please do not ever pay full retail or even get this at a so-called discount from the Crafter's Book Club. It is worthy of bargain basement pricing--probably no more than $2 or $3 at the very most. If you are like me and are looking for a book that details making conventional slipcovers for sofas, chairs, etc., save your money. This book does not even address slipcovers as one would think of slipcovers. Regarding slipcovers for furniture, check out the picture on the cover of the book. In this case, what you see is what you get, and the book does an extremely poor, very superficial job of instructing you on that "slipcover" project and even delegates the cover project to the very end of the book and with maybe 1/4 page of information at best. Save your money. Definitely pass on this one.
