Memorable Matches
All DVDs were in great shape and played great - no problems. The first volume of DVDs (SummerSlams 88-92) are my favorite and really brought me back to the days of when Hulkamania was running wild. And the Intercontinental title defenses were memorable each of those years. Whatever happened to the days when the IC championship meant something?

Blast From The Past!
This DVD set really is a blast from the past. I was a kid when most of these took place and this really brings back a lot of great childhood memories. You have everything from Macho Man and Elizabeth's wedding to the vintage Undertaker in some of his best matches. HBK has plenty of good matches on here as well. Kane as Isaac Yankem, then later as Kane are also here. The boiler room brawl between Undertaker and Mankind is here as well. Undertaker vs Bret Hart with HBK as the referee is a great match. Stone Cold getting injured by Owen Hart... here as well. Brock Lesnar against the Rock for the Undisputed Title? Who wouldn't want to see that again. So many great matches I can't begin to list them all. Amazing value! 5 STARS!!This DVD set really is a blast from the past. Convenient collection, neat cooler, fair reissue.
When sitting down to write this review, I tried to balance the content of Summerslam and the actual presentation of the material. I will begin with the content. Content - As far as convenience goes, the WWE-issued anthologies are pretty great. Up until the last few years, these PPVs were only available through much searching for DVD imports or the trusty old Colosseum Home Video VHS tapes. For anthologies issued by the WWE, I'd suggest buying this one third after the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania ones. The Summerslam PPVs were generally interesting matches with some great moments (in particular there is a Mr. Perfect vs. Bret Hart for the IC title that is just an excellent match that would play well even now) with a good smattering of characters, but the 90s can be a bit spotty. It is an interesting catalog of WWE history and worth owning for the fan who enjoys a wide range of WWE characters and eras, but if you have seen 80s and 90s wrestling and it doesn't seem like it's for you, then just get the 2003-2007 set. Packaging - Not a lot of extra anything on here. I'll admit, I got sucked in by the awesome cooler packaging (it's SUMMERslam and they put it in a COOLER, fantastic!) but that's really the end of effort on the part of the WWE reissuers (In all fairness, if they were hand-markered DVDs of these difficult to find matches, people would still buy them). The content is plagues by the bemoaned censoring of any mention of WWF both audio and visual, but again, there are very few other choices. The issue that struck me was that they went through and censored out all of these WWF mentions, yet they did not bother to remaster what is extremely sketchy audio in many places. A simple limiting or level boost would have done wonders. Also, there are absolutely no bonus features. On regular WWE PPV DVDs, usually a snippet from Raw, or a dark match are included, which is nice, but on here it's absolutely bare bones. It's the PPV. It'd be nice to get perhaps the Free for All included, or anything, but alas, it's the DVD and that's it. On a bit of a side note, the other two anthologies (Royal Rumble and Wresltemania) have a delightful title screen music, especially that 80s sounding Wrestlemania theme. The Summerslam one is the most dreadful schlock that is vaguely wrestling related (sampling of the awesomeness: "I will fight you... into the ground.") I've fallen asleep to a disc and have literally gotten up because that song is so awful to shut off the DVD player. Final verdict - If there was a 3 and a half I would give it that, but I've marked it as a four only because of some of the great forgotten matches on here... and the cooler. -smwalus

Great PPVs, but packaging ruins it
Let me be clear, it's great because you get the first 14 events on DVD, which aren't available. However, the packaging SUCKS. They come in four separate volumes with five discs in each volume. The problem is that the discs are stored in cardboard sleeves, and if you're not very careful taking them out, they will be scratched. I ended up with five discs being scratched thanks to that, and now will have to buy one volume again. (I was able to repair the other two, but the other three are 1989, 1990 and 1991 which are on Volume 1) I bought them individually, but the one with the cooler set is exactly like it. So I recommend being very careful taking them out, and if you are able to not scratch any, buy new cases for them to store them.Let me be clear, it's great because you get the first 14 events on DVD, which aren't available.
