The Wicked Years continue in Gregory Maguire s Son of a Witch the heroic saga of the hapless yet determined young man who may or may not be the offspring of the fabled Wicked Witch of the West. A New York Times bestseller like its predecessor, the remarkable Wicked, Son of a Witch follows the boy Liir on his dark odyssey across an ingeniously re-imagined and nearly unrecognizable Land of Oz a journey that will take him deep into the bowels of the Emerald City, lately abandoned by the Wizard, and into the jaws of dragons. Great follow up to Wicked

I loved Wicked and couldn’t wait to read the sequels. This book is darker, but then again the whole world of Oz is dark, but fascinating. This book is about the child of Elphaba and Fiyero. Oz is still a dangerous place and he goes through many trials. I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone. I loaned all my books to a friend and I never got them back. This year I was able to see the Broadway play of Wicked which gave me a burning desire to read the whole series again so I was able to buy all the books from EBay. I bought all used but they came in new condition.

  • a Wickedly good sequal

This book is a great follow-up for anyone who enjoyed "Wicked". it follows the path of Liir the young boy who just "may be Elphaba's son", and his coming of age as well as many other themes interwoven to create a solid plot. His journey will hit home as he deals with wanting to do right, what haunts him, and what path to follow next. Should do his duty or follow that restless voice inside that can't settle down and wants to do something more? The language is modern but keeps an Oz type charm throughout. I found this book to have many more humorous moments then Wicked. Great for a book club as each chapter can provide much to talk about. A good read regardless if it is "just a light read" or you prefer to ponder the deeper meaning page by page. Maguire leaves a possibility of a third ...

  • A true pageturner!

I could not put this book down from the moment I received it. Mr. Maguire again wrote a wonderful novel that is funny, thrilling, sad, and yet oh-so-familiar with the Oz background. The book starts out where Wicked left off. Elphaba (the Witch) is dead, but her son lives on. He begins a journey that ends up being his young adulthood. The characters are wonderfully written, you feel like you know these people. The son, Liir, isn't perfect and that's the odd thing. You still root for him over and over even as he makes these heinous mistakes. Many of the same people from Wicked are back also. Nutty Nanny, Shell (the brother of the Wicked Witches), crazy old Yackle, Chistery the Flying Monkey, etc. I have been asked what age group should read this novel and I hate to say it but over 18 is ...

  • Good buy, wrong cover

The book was in great condition. I was a little irritated that the cover didn’t match the edition because I wanted a matching set of the series. But, all in all, I am pleased.

  • Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire

I purchased this book before I even finished reading "Wicked". This is the 2nd in the series and it is wonderful!! I have had a very hard time putting this down. It captures my attention and I feel like I am "right there" while reading. I hope that you will enjoy this as much as I have. Another great book by one of my favorite authors. The purchase price was great and I would recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of the Wizard of Oz.
