About this product

Product Information

Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships-rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. Now the fortunes of one of Bingtown's oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia. For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy. For Althea's young nephew, wrenched from his religious studies and forced to serve aboard the ship, the Vivacia is a life sentence. But the fate of the ship-and the Vestrits-may ultimately lie in the hands of an outsider: the ruthless buccaneer captain Kennit, who plans to seize power over the Pirate Isles by capturing a liveship and bending it to his will.

  • MUST read Magical Journey

My husband and I both read a lot so we often get books from the library. I read all three of the trilogies Robin (aka Megan Lindholm - both are pen names)has written and I have to say that they are the most amazing series I have ever read. That is why, after reading them I am buying them to always have. Most authors when writing about magic have a set of rules that the magic follows. Robins style is unique and subtle. She weaves a story like a master - you feel pulled into the world and are constantly hanging on every word to see what will happen next. These books are not written from one point of view, but many - each is different yet nothing is lost by the changes in perspective - on the contrary - each character is rich and complete. I have never had such a physical reaction to any ...

  • One of the best fantasy writers today.......

I don't care for dragons, ships or magic books. That said, Robin Hobb writes SO well that she makes 'anything' interesting! This series is set in the same world, with different people, as the Tawny Man series. No fluff here....her books are full of action and keep you immersed from our real world (now isn't that the point of reading fantasy???). This series of 3 books is definitely a keeper that you will read over and over and over........

  • Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb

Buy it and read it. It is a different kind of fantasy book. Not your typical dwarfs and hobbits, lol. Robin Hobb has been added to my list of good authors.
