About this product

Product Information

Ishiro Honda, director of the kaju eiga (giant monster) masterpiece GODZILLA, helms the unusual and comic DOGORA. Honda intended the film as a satire of the gangster and monster films that were extremely popular in Japan during the 1960s. Around the world, diamonds and coal are disappearing without a trace, much to the consternation of the authorities and detectives investigating the vanishings. A vast criminal conspiracy is suspected, but little do the governments of the world suspect that something far stranger is at work: DOGORA, a giant, transparent, jellyfish-like monster from outer space that feeds on the element of carbon. Can the armies and scientists of the world defeat DOGORA before it ingests all of the carbon on Earth--including the entirety of mankind?

One of the best non-Godzilla Toho movies!

Features many familiar faces from the Godzilla Showa series movies, and a pretty interesting sci-fi story with some great practical effects. It’s a decent print of the film and includes both the Japanese and English dubbed versions, well worth the price, it will make a great addition to any Godzilla fan’s collection!

  • Discover this TOHO Ishiro Honda Classic

If your into Godzilla / Gamera & other Japanese sci-fi monster flicks and you haven't seen this movie then your missing out on one of the better non-Godzilla TOHO movies from that era (60's). This movie features a great cast, direction by the master of Japanese science fiction film Ishiro Honda and awsome special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. The plot is simple, Diamonds and coal are turning up missing in huge quanties all over the world. At first the police suspect a diamond smugeling ring, but cant tie them in with the coal thefts. An inept detective and a scientist team up to help solve the mystery. Huge jelly-fish like creatures are robing the world of any carbon based substance they can get to feed on (Humans are on the menu as well). This is a well made, well acted film featuring great ...

  • A strange one from the Godzilla Guys at Toho...

Well it's no Godzilla(Gojira) but it is entertaining anyway.A television satellite is destroyed by a strange jellyfish-like blob and it only gets more weird from there. This monster eats coal and diamonds for the carbon they contain and as usual the scientists and military get to work on destroying it.I wont spoil the rest by giving away what happens but it's pretty good.Per usual Ishiro Honda directs with Eiji Tsuburaya doing the special effects with the great Akira Ifukube's soundtrack.Any Godzilla fanatic will enjoy this flick but if you aren't a Toho fan you may want to look elsewhere for movie night.

  • Awesome Sci-fi with lightweight features

One of the strangest movies and monsters Toho ever produced to the big screen. Not much for special features other than trailers and a photo gallery but is sure to entertain the sci-fi buff in everyone. Classic!
