This is a rare thing among sequels, no, not that it is better than the original (because it's not) but rare in the way that every event from the original is important to watching the second movie. If you have not seen the original "Scream" do NOT watch "Scream 2" as you won't fully understand or appreciated what it going on. A lot of the characters from the original movie are back for the sequel, but if you haven't seen the original, you wont know them or what they bring to the second movie, the same applies to the "movie in a movie" joke that is "Stab" Where as the original "Scream" was more of a re-inventing of the horror genre with it's poking fun at every horror movie ever made, "Scream 2" does not play with the same set of rules. Those people expecting the "sequel genre" to be ... Those people expecting the "sequel genre" to be lampooned and lambasted will be disappointed here, as this movie is more of a murder mystery whodunit (albeit with lots of blood) than an out and out slasher flick. (although there is a lot of slashing going on) I must admit that I did not enjoy this movie as much as the original and I would normally say this it was just "Pretty Good" because this time around, the movie seemed a little too serious. The "Ghostface killer" seemed more ruthless and violent where as in the original movie, Ghostface seemed more amateurish, however when the end rolls around and everything is revealed, you will find that it all makes perfect sense and really plays into the plot of the original movie very cleverly. This is actually a good sequel, and while not really the same as the original "Scream" if you have seen that one, you probably should watch this too so you can find out what happens to the characters next.
