About this product

Product Information

John McEnroe was just an eighteen-year-old amateur from Queens when he stunned the tennis world by making it to the Wimbledon semifinals in 1977. He turned pro the following year after winning the NCAA singles title; three years later, he was ranked number one in the world. McEnroe dominated tennis in the eighties, winning three Wimbledon and four U.S. Open titles. His 1980 Wimbledon final match with Bjorn Borg is considered by many tennis experts to be the best match ever. You Cannot Be Seriousis McEnroe at his most personal, a no-holds-barred examination of contemporary tennis, his championship seasons, his cantankerous on-court behavior, his marriage to Tatum O'Neal, his current roles as a devoted father, husband to pop star Patty Smyth, senior tennis tour player, and controversial television commentator, and much more. Funny, biting, close to the bone, this is exactly the book you'd expect-and want-from one of the most colorful figures of our time.

  • You Cannot Be Seroius by James Kaplan & John McEnroe

A Great book for anyone to read. You don't have to be a tennis player to enjoy this book. If you are looking for a book to improve your tennis game, then this is not the right book for you. John McEnroe talks about his experiences in life as a professional tennis player, as a father, as a husband and gives more insight into behind the scenes on the tour. He talks about other players on the tour, the politics of the game and the different personalities. The book starts out with tragic Sept. 11 situation in New York City as he goes into other aspects of the game and his views on things. A creative approach with a blend of personal experiences and views on life as a competitive tennis player. Highly recommended for everyone, especially if you are a tennis players. Warning... this book will ...

  • Super Brat or John the Nice?

Anybody who is a fan of tennis or just J.P. McEnroe would be foolish not to give this book a look through. John McEnroe's life was one of great accomplishment and also a long and often hard battle to find himself. If he wasn't exploding at linesmen or throwing racquets(or obscenities), he was winning straight set victories of tennis greats of the time. He struggled through some tough relationships and eventually a nasty divorce. Through it all he managed to have three beautiful children whom helped him overcome depression and become an adult and loving father. He is now happily married to singer/songwriter Patty Smith and has had a couple of children with her as well. Get inside the man who changed the face and behavior of professional tennis. See through his eyes on every point he ever ...

  • Interesting read

I thoroughly enjoyed this McEnroe autobiography. Of course, I was a big McEnroe fan back in the day when he was the bad boy of tennis. Very interesting read. Lots of inside (and surprising) info on what the pro tennis circuit was like. But it's more than just about tennis. It also covers his musical "career" and his marriage to Patty Smyth.
