Product Information

The sequel to World Series Baseball II, World Series Baseball '98 continues the growing franchise. As usual, this game features MLB and MLBPA licensing so that all of the players and teams are included. Along with the players and teams, all of the stadiums are here as well. Modes of play include exhibition, playoffs, home run derby, and pennant race (full season). For each batter World Series Baseball '98 includes authentic batting stances as well as strengths and weaknesses. Pointing out the strengths and weaknesses are four quadrants that overlay the strike zone. Every quadrant represents a button on the controller. Quadrants show which part of the strike zone is the batter's strong area and where they are weakest. Players then have the option to select a quadrant as they attempt to guess where the pitcher will throw the ball. Pitchers are represented realistically as well. They throw the same types of pitches they would throw in real life and feature their actual windup. For example, Randy Johnson brings the heat while Tim Wakefield tosses knuckleballs. Many other features are included as well: weather, interleague play, stat tracking, various camera angles, a play-by-play announcer, and injuries. One thing that is still missing from the series is the ability to trade players.

Still fun after all these years
I bought this guy back in '99 or so. My copy was a bit faded so I got on ebay to get one with art and manual that weren't faded. I tested the game and it is still as fun as I remember the last time I played. 3D graphics on the Saturn aren't going to wow anyone but they are solid and are a huge departure from the earlier World Series Baseball games while still maintaining solid game play. Graphics are smooth and colorful with a good frame rate. Animations are pretty good. Commentary is crisp and the music is good in spots. Guessing the correct pitch zone and getting a homer a just the right moment feels great. Fielding is good and allows you to make plays. I was considered the best console baseball game even over Playstation at the time of release. Even though its a "sports game" I ... I bought this guy back in '99 or so. World Series Baseball 98 is in my opinion one of the best baseball games ever made. It's still a blast to play, great graphics, smooth gameplay, and many real batting stances and pitching styles. If you have a Sega Saturn and have a chance to pick this up (especially since the price is super low compared to other Saturn games) definitely do it.

Good baseball game with a little bit of everything
This game was pretty awesome when it first came out. Compared to other titles that released at the same time, it's okay. It has lots of bells and whistles, but it lacks the smoothness and detail that the triple play games have. Other than that, it's still a good game overall.

Best Baseball on Saturn
When this game was first released it was the best baseball game on any system. It had great graphics, great gameplay, and was a fun game to play. When I play it today , I am still suprised how it holds up to todays standards, which are not that high anyways. This is a great game to play,so pick it up.
