  • Firearms reference book only.

I bought this book expecting it to contain information regarding shooting techniques and practical tips for improved cowboy action shooting (i.e. training drills, dry-fire practice technique, tips for engaging specific targets in competition, etc.). It offers none of that. It is basically an introduction into what cowboy action shooting is about followed by an extensive firearms reference and pricing guide for the types of arms used in the sport. I would not recommend buying the book, unless the reference material is what you are interested in, as nearly the entire volume is dedicated to this information. The "getting started" information contained in the first few chapters of the book can be found on the SASS website as well as others and their information will be more specific and up ...

  • Cowboy Action Shooting by John Taffin

This book was either incorrectly or fraudulently represented as written by John Taffin. He has written books with solid content and I bought it on this basis. When it came it was a Gun Digest Book edited by Kevin Michalowski as shown on the cover. There are four authors. Johnson has written 4 chapters, Guili and Moore wrote 1 chapter. Taffin wrote only 2 chapters and Doc Bonecutter wrote the last chapter. Almost all (pages 70- 266) of the book is a photocopy of "The Standard Catalog of Firearms, 15th Edition" possibly of interest to old firearms collectors but certainly not to the beginning shooter. I would not have purchased this book if it had honestly described. I had also considered buying "All About Cowboy Action Shooting" by Ron Harris. At a recent Gun Show I saw a copy and was ...

  • Cowboy Action Shooting - Taffin

The book covered the choice of weapons, costume, and the SASS society in general very well. It is good preparation for anyone interested in becoming involved in Cowboy Action Shooting. This should save money and effort for those who, on learning about CAS, would not really enjoy it. It also would save time and money for those who do decide to get involved. In essence, it was well worth the price, whatever one decides to do with CAS.

  • Cowboy Action Shooting by John Taffin

Title is very misleading. This book was not written by John Taffin, book contains two previously published articles by John Taffin totaling 18 pages out of 288. I spoke with Mr Taffin and he was very upset about this as the publisher had used his name without permission and was supposed to have removed his name from the cover. Only about 68 pages of this book are articles about cowboy action shooting. Articles are written by five different authors. The remaining 200+ pages are a catalog of the various firearms suited to Cowboy Action Shooting available at the time book was published. I would not recommend this book as you will surely be disappointed.

  • Cowboy Action Shooting - Gear-Guns-Tactics

Includes a price guide that is obviously now several years out of date but still useful if you just want a rough overview. Authoritative and well written, it is packed with down-to-basics information and lots of good photos. If you are thinking of getting into this pastime, it would be right smart to read this first, pardner.
