Bit Dated, Still a Good GPS!

As the title says, this item is a bit dated. Pros: -fits in the palm of your hand -batteries last FOREVER. -backlit screen -very easy user operating system with minimal effort Cons: -no external port to connect to a computer or other peripheral - (can be a con depending on how you feel about this:) accuracy can range from a foot away to about 24 feet away. Overall, its good for what its worth. It connects to 5 available orbiting satellites. It marks the trail path you've walked, it has a backlit screen and its very comfortable in the hand and is light, portable and small. I like it for what it is, you be the judge.

    easy to use & acurrate

takes 3 to 5 minutes to get satellite lock. Not able to connect to P.C. because this model was not made for any type of connection. better than no G.P.S..

  • Garmin Geko 101 Review

If you can pick one up at a good price, the Garmin Geko 101 is a nice little gps. Signal acquisition is slow, compared to the Etrex, and it's not going to do as well in trees or under other cover. But for basic gps use, it's a fine device, and it's tough to get much better than 3 oz for those who are seeking to save on weight. There are a few other currently offered gps units at that weight, but of course you're going to pay more for the latest, and if it's the basics you want, a few unnecessary features.

  • Da Great Gecko

This is my second Garmin. Both are GR8 devices for their intended purposes. I bought the Geko 101 for its size, weight, and cost. I use it to capture the top speed of model radio control racing boats. That helps me to tune the boats and achieve its best speed. The Geko is so small and light weight AND ACCURATE that it is ideal for my intended purpose. Short coming: It can't store a history of runs (trips) like my GPS II Plus that I use on my mountain bike trail rides. Tom H Valrico, Florida

  • Garmin Geko 101

Small size and very light weight make it easy to carry and use. Instructions are clear enough to be able to use with little or no previous experience with gps units. Navigation through pages is relatively easy. Some of the more "powerful" applications are not always explained thoroughly. AAA battery power cause the unit to require fresh batteries frequently. Rechargeable batteries help ease that minor negative. I would definitely recommend a unit like this to anyone looking for a gps unit for personal use.
