About this product

Product Information

Bon Temps's psychic waitress takes a dangerous road trip in the third novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series --the inspiration for the HBO® original series True Blood . There's only one vampire Sookie Stackhouse is involved with (at least voluntarily) and it's Bill Compton. But recently he's been a little distant--in another state, distant. Then his sinister and sexy boss Eric Northman tells Sookie where she might find him. Next thing she knows, she's off to Jackson, Mississippi, to mingle with the under-underworld at Club Dead, a dangerous little haunt where the elite of vampire society can go to chill out and suck down some Type-O. But when Sookie finally finds Bill--caught in an act of serious betrayal--she's not sure whether to save him...or sharpen some stakes.

Reviews
Praise for #1 New York Times  bestselling author Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse novels "It's the kind of book you look forward to reading before you go to bed, thinking you're only going to read one chapter, and then you end up reading seven."--Alan Ball, executive producer of True Blood "Vivid, subtle, and funny in her portrayal of southern life."-- Entertainment Weekly "Charlaine Harris has vividly imagined telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse and her small-town Louisiana milieu, where humans, vampires, shapeshifters, and other sentient critters live...Her mash-up of genres is delightful, taking elements from mysteries, horror stories, and romances."-- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel "The series continues to be inventive and funny with an engaging, smart, and sexy heroine."-- The Denver Post "Blending action, romance, and comedy, Harris has created a fully functioning world so very close to our own, except, of course, for the vamps and other supernatural creatures."-- The Toronto Star

Great price and fast shipping. However, the item didn't arrive exactly as pictured. The corners of the front and back covers were all dented. In the photographs, they didn't appear to be this way, but it's something that could have happened in transit. Perhaps using a flat box rather than a bubble mailer would be better for future media purchases. It's alright, though. The inside is fully intact and mint. Overall, I recommend this seller.

  • Book 3 is Not Quite as Good

If you read the two books that preceded "Club Dead" in the series, you know that the Sookie books are fluff reading. Fun to read and then forget about -- no depth at all. You can read this book without reading the prequels even though the characters remain the same. Harris does a good job of covering the facts brought out in the previous books that you need to know. However, I found "Club Dead" disappointing because Sookie becomes a real slut in this one. Plus it was extremely difficult to understand the situation with Vampire Bill. He goes off on a secret mission that we're told almost nothing about, except that it is for the "Queen of Louisiana" and promptly falls back in love with an old girlfriend, Lorena the Vampire -- and is kidnapped. Since we're told NOTHING of Bill and ...

  • Good Book

Club Dead has a fast paced plot, filled with humor, suspense, vampire lore and politics, new characters and excitement - not to mention Sookie's depression at being betrayed by Bill. I must say, that for a dumpee, she certainly gets plenty of male attention, although the men aren't human. Author Charlaine Harris also gives more depth to Sookie, Bill and Eric. I really like Alcide as a character and hope to see more of him in future novels. I also enjoy Sookie's downhome attitude. She is proud but not pretentious, feminine but no shrinking violet. She has got great instincts and her sense of humor is downright wicked! This is light, escapist reading at its best.

  • CLUB DEAD by Carlaine Harris

The story of Sookie Stackhouse continues. Sookie is a waitress who works at a bar. She can read minds. Most men are afraid to date her. Not Bill! You see Bill is a Vampire. She can't read a vampire's mind. Only fussy a word or two at times. They are a perfect pair. In this book, Bill goes missing and Sookie heads out to Club Dead to find him. Not one of my favorites, but you will need this book. I will tell you why. Come fall there will be a new pilot series picked up by HBO called True Blood. You will need to read all the Sookie stories to follow the storyline. My favorite one is DEAD TO THE WORLD by Chairlaine Harris.

  • Introducing love interest number 3... Alcide!

The HBO Series True Blood was based upon these "Dead" books; however the television series follows a different timeline than the original books. It is basically Twilight for adults. Club Dead is the 3rd installment of the series which features the introduction of the character Alcide. If you do buy this book you should really follow the series in order... 1. Dead Until Dark 2. Living Dead In Dallas 3. Club Dead 4. Dead To the World 5. Dead as a Doornail 6. Definately Dead 7. All Together Dead 8. From Dead to Worse 9. Dead and Gone

  • Save Him or Stake Him...HUM! Great Book ~ Great Series

I Love this Book! I really like Alcide. I hope to see more of him in rest of the series. {I have now purchased all of the book in this series!} Sookie has now been betrayed by Bill and he is in BIG trouble! Will she save him or will she stake him? Of Course Eric is here too! Great Book ~ Great Series! A Must Read! I can't wait to read the rest of the Sookie Stakehouse Series! I recommend you read this series in order as Sookies story continues from book to book. Club Dead is the third book in this series. Check my Guides for the READING ORDER!
