    Bulgaria, 1934. A young man is murdered by the local fascists. His brother, Khristo Stoianev, is recruited into the NKVD, the Soviet secret intelligence service, and sent to Spain to serve in its civil war.       Historic European Spy Story

      Alan Furst is a master of spy fiction of the era of pre-World War II (Spanish Civil War) and France under occupation. His stories are subtle, complex and historically accurate. Night Soldiers was his first such novel and his other stories interweave each other.
