Synopsis
Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett is called out for a moose poaching incident that turns out to be something much more sinister: a local fishing guide has been brutally murdered. At the same time, Marybeth opens an unmarked package and finds a photo album that belonged to an infamous Nazi official. When a close neighbour is murdered, Joe and Marybeth face new questions about the dangers that come with their discoveries. Meanwhile, Nate Romanowski is on the hunt for the man who attacked his wife. Can Nate use his network of Falconers to track down the culprit?, Wyoming Game Warden Joe Pickett and his wife, Marybeth, make separate discoveries that put the Pickett family in a pair of killers' crosshairs in this thrilling new novel in the bestselling series. Don't miss the JOE PICKETT series--now streaming on Paramount+ A day before the three Pickett girls come home for Thanksgiving, Joe is called out for a moose-poaching incident that turns out to be something much more sinister: a local fishing guide has been brutally tortured and murdered. At the same time, Marybeth opens an unmarked package at the library where she works and finds a photo album that belonged to an infamous Nazi official. Who left it there? And why? She learns that during World War II, several Wyoming soldiers were in the group that fought to Hitler's Eagles Nest retreat in the Alps--and one of them took the Fuhrer's personal photo album. Did another take this one and keep it all these years? When a close neighbor is murdered, Joe and Marybeth face new questions: Who is after the book? And how will they solve its mystery before someone hurts them...or their girls? Meanwhile, Nate Romanowski is on the hunt for the man who stole his falcons and attacked his wife. Using a network of fellow falconers, Nate tracks the man from one city to another. Even as he grasps the true threat his quarry presents, Nate swoops in for the kill--and a stunning final showdown.

Book as described, packed extremely well. Good value for the condition- just how I like to buy books. Delivery a couple of days late, but not seller’s fault. In sum a great experience. Thank you very much! 😊

    Book review - shadows reel

Classic of the CJ Box Joe Pickett series. Ripping good story line, strong characters. Excellent current political trends research. Touches too close to the truth of past and current historic events.

  • Top critical review

    A major letdown

This is the least well-written (and ultimately least successful) book in the Joe Pickett series by author C.J. Box. His attempt to write two unrelated storylines just does not work. The plot involving the Pickett family starts out promising, but it becomes plodding (and, actually, somewhat improbable). For the most part, the Nate Romanowski plot is unrelated to the other story. Joe Pickett's involvement at the end seems like an afterthought. Both finales wrap up so quickly that there are details missing, holes in the plot and also some unresolved situations from the previous book, "Dark Sky." Two of the three Pickett daughters are barely present in the narrative. Wife Marybeth outdoes Joe with her detective work. Joe himself seems to be sleepwalking throughout the entire book. ...

  • Action, surprises and moves at a breakneck pace

Typical of C J Box, Lots of action, extremely well written, a down home feel and moments of "oh no-what's happening. Love CJ Box. A stellar author!

  • Another Winner!!

Another great book by CJ Box. I have all his books. He is definitely a winner. I love the ruggedness of the books and his strong sense of justice for people and animals. I have animals and observe them daily . They can't speak English or any language except their own but they have a definite method of communicating if we just listen. Joe Pickett loves his family and has a great friend who raises and loves falcons. In this book Joe is called on to help him as he takes down an enemy of USA and his family. Highly recommended book. Keep it up CJ.

  • My favorite book series.

Number 22 (I believe) of the Joe Pickett novels. This one is just as good as the rest of them. I am looking forward to 23 and beyond..
