Best of the Yes 5.1 Blu Rays
I also have the blu rays of Yes Fragile, Close to the Edge and Relayer. The same person, Steve Wilson, mixed all four. I think Fragile and The Yes Album are by far the best two he did. The problem with the others is that there is too much of a change from the original mix. It's a different mix. It's not better or worse, but it's different. The 2015 Yes Album blu ray is more true to the original, although it's 5.1. These Yes blu rays come with all sorts of alternate mixes including stereo from the original master, a UK vinyl needle drop recording, alternate mixes, additional material, etc. It is ironic because I think as works of music, CTTE and Relayer are far better than The Yes Album, but I enjoy the 5.1 mix of The Yes Album more. Listening to The Yes Album blu ray for me was like ... I also have the blu rays of Yes Fragile, Close to the Edge and Relayer. The same person, Steve Wilson, mixed all four. Listening to The Yes Album blu ray for me was like hearing this album for the first time. A couple of highlights for me. 1. Listening to the vocal harmony mixes. In stereo, you hear a nice blend of voices, but in the 5.1 the backing harmonies are separated out more on the surround speakers. You get to hear the separate tracks. 2. Every track is well done, but Perpetual Change is really the highlight for me. I cannot even begin to describe it. Take my word for it. It's a wonderful mix. The only departure from the original is Steve Howe's sustain guitar line in the beginning of his solo in Yours is No Disgrace. At the beginning the guitar is a little too ethereal and buried in the mix. It sounds different than the original, but then it picks up and the guitar leads are crisp and awesome. If you are a Yes fan with a surround system, you need to get all four 5.1 blu rays. But start with this one or Fragile.

A definite for a YES fan. For an audiophile who enjoys YES it is a go for this price....you can expect to hear fresh nuances and a reasonably good dts, but don't expect a miracle remaster that brings a different life to it.

Simply amazing 5.1 mix.
The only thing I don’t like is the packaging. It’s a gatefold 2 LP imitation with 2 discs inside the cardboard sleeves. So hard to pull them out without touching disc surface. Digipak would be so much better. This is the first time I listen to this album on a CD and in 5.1 multichannel . I heard it only on vinyl before. Here are my impressions :remastered CD sounds good. Definitely better than Apple Music version. But of course not better than original vinyl. As for the Blu ray audio : I use PS4 , optical sound cable and an outdated Onkyo receiver. Linear PCM mode doesn’t really sound that great on my system. I don’t have DTS-HD MA capability either. So the best I can get is DTS multichannel 48 kHz. And it does sound phenomenal.
