Reviews
Dixon wore many hats on the frontier, including that of a trapper, farmer, buffalo hunter, and cowboy, and he enjoyed them all. A facsimile of the 1927 original, this book conveys Dixon's enthusiasm for the wide-open West, telling of his hair-raising escapades in Indian battles as well as his calmer moments on the plains.

Synopsis
A narrative of the ""wild, free life"" on the Great Plains frontier. The Great Plains frontier is seen through the knowing eyes of a participant who lived that frontier experience and who fortunately left an accurate and engaging record for those who followed., Life of Billy Dixon is a compelling narrative of the "wild, free life" on the Great Plains frontier. Ride with Billy Dixon to a high point on the plains and look out over a nearly solid mass of buffalo that stretches in every direction as far as the eye can see. Stand with Billy Dixon at Adobe Walls, in the unsettled Texas Panhandle, as hundreds of Comanche, Kiowa, and Cheyenne warriors on horseback charge out of the pre-dawn darkness toward a few dozen buffalo hunters. Crouch down in desperation with Billy Dixon at the Buffalo Wallow Fight as he and a few wounded and dying men lie in a shallow depression on the plains surrounded by howling Indians. In the Life of Billy Dixon the Great Plains frontier is seen through the knowing eyes of a participant who lived that frontier experience and who fortunately left an accurate and engaging record for those who followed.

  • Life of Billy Dixon sums it up.

Wonderfully told memoir of a true pioneer, buffalo hunter, scout, and crack shot at Adobe Walls. A different perspective of a very pivotal time in plains settlement.

  • Great book about the life of buffalo hunters

This is a great book. Especally if your into buffalo rifles and buffalo hunting. Most of the book is on his life as a hunter. Great descriptions of life back then. Anyone interested in that period will not be unhappy with this book.

  • Great Book for Plains History buffs.

I've read this book several times now. I live very close to most of the areas that were described within the book by Billy Dixon (about 12 miles from Buffalo Wallow). This part of the Panhandle is fairly remote today, I can only imagine what it was like in the 1870's. If your a plains history, Indian War's history, or buffalo hunter history buff, you will love this book.

  • Life and Times of Billy Dixon

Excellent book! A autobiograph of Dixon, who is famous for his long distance shot at Adobe Walls. This book will tell much more and is insightful to that period 1870's and what life was really like.I would highly recommend to fans of the Old West, but is just a plain good read.
