This device effectively converted my TV's Dolby output to analog audio, through a cable, which runs about 25ft to a 7.1 Dolby receiver/amp. I tried using a direct SPDIF connection but the signal was lost in the run (also about 25ft). I still plan to try using an optical splitter, which is supposed to maintain the signal in runs up to 85ft. If that works it will simplify the cable quagmire a bit. But in any case, this fix works fine. The seller is great at answering technical questions - thanks!

My receiver only gets Pro Logic sound (no stereo on surround speakers)
I'm not sure why but my old Kenwood receiver (1997) won't switch to Dolby Digital as it automatically does when playing DVDs. I can only use Pro Logic without the surround in stereo. I used the optical out on my LG and I tried every mode in the settings. The surround sound speakers are not in stereo but I am still happy this is working. I remember Dolby Digital was much more exciting than Pro Logic but I won't upgrade my old stereo system because it still works.
