Brutally poor sportsmanship and fantasy combat clash in a gruesome battle for glory and gold, in Southpeak's PC version of Blood Bowl. A tongue-in-cheek combination of Warhammer RPG-style battle and American football, the game is won by passing or running the ball into the opponent's end zone for a touchdown, but the players on the field wear armor and wield deadly medieval weapons. Gamers take the roles of coaches, drafting their teams from one of eight fantasy races, including humans, elves, orcs, and goblins. Each race offers a different balance of strength, speed, and accuracy. Individual players' skills can affect their chances of successfully blocking, dodging, tackling, and throwing or catching the ball, and also their combat moves. As in a role-playing game, abilities can be improved with gear upgrades. Helmets add toughness to avoid injury, shoulder pads increase strength, gloves make players more agile and dexterous, and boots increase speed. Cheerleaders and the rowdy crowds can also make a difference in a team's chances of success, as can bribing the officials.<br><br>The computer game follows the official Blood Bowl rulebook. The turn-based mode is played much like grid-lined console RPG combat, except that the goal is not (necessarily) to slay everyone on the other team, but to move the ball across the field. A real-time mode is also available, to challenge the coaches' quick thinking abilities as well as their tactical planning skills. Multiplayer modes include LAN games and a same-screen hot seat option, as well as online competitions with persistent leagues and tournaments. The original tabletop version of Blood Bowl, played with miniature figures and dice, was created in 1987 by Jervis Johnson of Games Workshop, who also helped design Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Ancient Battles. The console and computer versions of the game were developed by France's Cyanide studio, whose previous credits include the European releases Pro Rugby Manager and Chaos League.

      Blood Bowl (2010 release)

      A good representation of the turn-based wargame/boardgame Blood Bowl, by Games Workshop, this game is easy to learn and play, and covers most of the fun aspects of the game that players of the tabletop game will recall from edition 3 to the current v5. Rules are clear and the interface is fairly clean, with only a few minor exceptions. The one issue I had to learn by error was how to use the Apothecary effectively, and that is more due to my lack of familiarity with v5 rules before playing. The best part of the game is that it is not just a 1-off match each time - you buy/create a team and then coach them through matches as they gain skills and abilities. Kills, pass completions, catches, tackles, and scores are tracked in the team roster. This is "fantasy" football at its finest.

      Good game.

      Was an excellent game that installed on Windows 7 64-bit system. Sometimes games won't install on 64 bit systems. And I had no problem setting it up and getting it to run well from the start. I think I did some video tweaking to get it to not lag, used a different resolution. Graphics OK, game control OK, didn't try it on internet or multiplayer. Turn based or real time, which is nice. Inexpensive, suitable for teenagers I would say.

      Excellent Game!

      Loved the board game but wanted to be able to play solitaire on a PC. Game can be played just like board game or with other options that add quite a lot to overall gameplay. Installed on Windows 7 system and runs well after a little fiddling with video settings and running it as administrator. Great game at a great price!

      A GREAT GAME!

      This game was taken from the GW boardgame of a decade ago. It is true to the rules and Warhammer universe. The PC version runs well, although loading each game does take a bit (Depending on your PC). Internet play is great and there are leagues forming everywhere for it.

      good !

      Ces très très bien et très très vite je l'ai recu en seulement 5 jours par la poste , il très bien emballé mais cependant dans le game manuel il y a une page arracher et sur la pochette il y a un collant mal enlever mais apart de sa toute est parfait !!!! Mais fallait tout de mêmes que je mattend qu'il soit pas neuf !!!!! Alors ma critique es bonne même très bonne . Merci beaucoup !!!!
