One of the Greatest Albums of All Time
I grew up with my mom listening to this in her car for as long as I can remember. I remember all of the songs, but never grew an appreciation for it again until recently I listened to the lyrics and realized how politically driven and emotionally compelling they are. Tracy Chapman uses her stirring voice mixed with her ability to write amazing songs on poverty and the struggles of African-Americans in today's society. Although this was produced 20 years ago, most of the lyrics still hold up to today. If you're looking for something new to listen to, but nothing is good on the radio, get this CD - you won't regret it.I grew up with my mom listening to this in her car for as long as I can remember. I remember first hearing Chapman's smoky voice and gritty dreams on this self-titled recording and feeling as if she were singing for me, to me. Many others experienced the same, and so upward spun Chapman's career over the past 20+ years). Interestingly, I also recall not being able to make out the words to one song that I especially liked; now what with CD-liners and internet chats, no problem. Tracy Chapman....A Great Talent
I've always been a big fan of the great voice of Tracy Chapman. She's truly an underrated talent. Her lyrics and messages through her songs are definitely what sets her apart from most other artists. Ths CD is one of my favorites of all time.
