Synopsis
Celebrate Little House, available once again with the classic Garth Williams artwork gracing the covers and black--and--white interiors., The classic World War II thriller from the acclaimed master of action and suspense. Now issued for the first time as an e-book. Twelve hundred British soldiers isolated on the small island of Kheros off the Turkish coast, waiting to die. Twelve hundred lives in jeopardy, lives that could be saved if only the guns could be silenced. The guns of Navarone, vigilant, savage and catastrophically accurate. Navarone itself, grim bastion of narrow straits manned by a mixed garrison of Germans and Italians, an apparently impregnable iron fortress. To Captain Keith Mallory, skilled saboteur, trained mountaineer, fell the task of leading the small party detailed to scale the vast, impossible precipice of Navarone and to blow up the guns. The Guns of Navarone is the story of that mission, the tale of a calculated risk taken in the time of war…, The sixth book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's treasured Little House series, and the recipient of a Newbery Honor. This edition features the classic black-and-white artwork from Garth Williams. The fledgling town of De Smet in the Dakota Territory is hit hard by the brutal winter of 1880-1881. Laura, Pa, Ma, Mary, Carrie, and little Grace face the winter as best they can, but soon, blizzards have covered the town in snow that piles up to the rooftops, cutting the town off from supplies and trade. Food stores begin to run dangerously low. To save the town from starvation, young Almanzo Wilder and a friend brave the conditions, set off across the prairie in search of wheat, and return victorious. The town is saved, and the townspeople share in an unusual, but joyful, Christmas celebration. The nine books in the timeless Little House series tell the story of Laura's real childhood as an American pioneer, and are cherished by readers of all generations. They offer a unique glimpse into life on the American frontier, and tell the heartwarming, unforgettable story of a loving family.

  • just as described and shipped quick!

If you love the Little House Series, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this is the book for you. Its about the Ingalls first winter in Desmet S. Dakota, and its a very bad winter, a history making winter in how long it lasted and how cold it was. They nearly starve because the train with supplies and food cant get through with all the snow. Laura meets Almanzo, and he comes to the rescue. I love the Little House Series and this is my favorite Little House book.

  • The Long Winter - Wonderful Reading

This is an excellent kid's book. I am reading the entire Little House Series to my girls a little at at time before bed each night, and The Long Winter, is just as wonderful as the others. Great descriptions of outdoors, living in the late 1800's, and a great example of how families work together and grow together. My girls are 4 and 6 and love these books!

  • Beautiful, endearing story of life in America in the late 1800's..

Excellent book - I loved this series as a little girl and I am eager to read all of them to my daughter. I remember this story well; detailing how difficult a hard winter was to survive for this pioneer family. Mrs. Wilder wrote beautifully and really holds the attention of the reader. I am so glad to finally have the entire set purchased from several sellers here, on Ebay!

  • Great book!

This was one of my favorite "Little House" books when I was a child. I bought this for my personal/my children's collection. I have all of Laura Ingalls Wilder's other books, but was somehow never able to find this one. I always had to check it out at the library. I bought this to complete my set of books, so that my children can have the complete collection. This is a great addition to the other books in the series.

  • These are wonderful

I grew up reading th Little house series, and watching it on TV. Obviously the books were better- but all in all, it is a wonderful story. I have read the series so many times, I could probably tell you all about the Ingalls family. I am an adult now and I still read them, and now I'm starting to get the others too- the books about Roses life, and Carolines, life, etc. These are great for every age!
