Shure SRH940
After owning the SRH440 headphones for nearly 5 years, I decided it was finally time to upgrade. Don't get me wrong, the 440's are in no way worn out or in need of replacement; I was ready for the upgrade in sonic clarity, driver quality and long-term comfort. After hearing the 940's for the first time, I was blown away. Pristine high-end clarity. No overwhelming or artificial bass response. Referring back to high-quality tracks I've been listening to for many years, I was able to hear a whole new level of clarity in vocals, ambient effects, mixing techniques and more. The only thing to consider is the fact that these headphones are so accurate, you may believe there is almost too much high end. This is not the case. Punching above there price
I own the srh840 and srh940, both of them are excellent headphones but the 940's are really special and I'm surprised they are not more talked about. They are very nuetral but so detailed, the only headphone I've ever heard with more detail is the Sennheiser hd800 and only by a small amount, they also don't sound like a closed headphone usually a closed headphone with good soundstage still somehow sounds closed but the 940 does an amazing job at sounding open and clear. I would say if you are looking into either the 840 or 940 I would definitely suggest the 940 it has the same signature but more refined and detailed, it's a must hear for any audiophile.I own the srh840 and srh940, both of them are excellent headphones but the 940's are really special and I'm surprised they are not more talked about. Prefect for reference headphones
I love the headphones for my purpose which is referencing tracks and instruments. I would not recommend these as pleasure listening headphones. The music can sound a little sterile. By no means are they inaccurate, but if there is a minor flaw in the recording or headphone amplifier you WILL hear the flaw. First impression just listening on a mobile device was lack luster even on lossless file compression. The it dawned on me the the headphone amp was the lack luster portion. I was right. Same song on a proper headphone amp and the headphones sounded more dynamic. Still sterile, but that is what I need. You can listen on a mobile device. It is not like they are power hungry like the 250 ohm 880’s. Just be prepared to hear flaws in either the recording work playback device. I have a ... The band is very comfortable which can be an issue for us with big melons. This is my first pair with detachable cord. Not a big fan of removing the cord every time I want to put them back into their protective home. The protective case is well constructed, but large. It does not fit well into my backpack for live gigs. In a perfect world, the case would fit in the front pocket of your jeans, but we live in a world of compromise. I cannot say this enough. Awesome reference headphones. I love them.
