About this product

Product Information

Miriam Swanson is thoroughly provoked and she doesn't mind letting you know. Twenty years ago her husband Charles, a powerful attorney with one of the last remaining white shoe law firms in New York, dumped her for a younger woman nearly half her age. Obviously it happens all the time and it's not exactly news, but what's fascinating is to watch Miriam evolve from pathetic to spectacular. Perfectly proper Miriam's great metamorphosis results from the arrival of a little redneck school teacher, Liz, from Nowhere, Alabama. Liz is Miriam's tenant (along with Kevin, a 50 something gay man who is Miriam's best friend). Liz is everything that Miriam is not: young and thin. They constantly clash until the one night when they realize that they are both dating the same man, the same married man. They attack the Lothario and become friends. Soon after she and her new "family" become involved in a crime that leads them back to Charleston. Miriam is confronted with her past when an invitation to her son's wedding comes in the mail. Liz and Kevin help her lose weight, change her look, and get a face lift. She is ready to wow her exhusband when circumstances arise that force her to reevaluated her choices. Is Charles worth it or do her friends, her new family, need her more?

Arrived in perfect condition, carefully wrapped in the box. Description was perfect. I have been looking for this piece for over six years ever since I saw it in a book called Savannah style.

I received the book quickly but it certainly wasn’t in “good” condition as the listing indicated. It has very heavy foxing and possibly spills along the edge of all page sides. The book is unusable and will have to be thrown out since I would not like it shelved around my other books. Very disappointing.

  • Land of Mango Sunsets

Another wonderful Dorothea Benton Frank book. This book was a little slower start that her others. But , as usual Frank takes you to another level. The book had me wanting to move to the Island , make a garden, raise chickens and get myself together and have a party just to invite my ex husband to show him how good I look! I loved this part of the book. A book about relationships and how things happen to us when we get caught up in everyday life expectations. It made me stop and think about events in my life and I now have a desire to enjoy many more of those Mango Sunsets around the Charleston area. I purchased this book because I am a Dorothea B. Frank fan and would never miss one of her publications and I once again was not disappointed!

  • Dorothea Benton Frank's Book is Wonderful!

The Land of Mango Sunsets was a delight to read! This book takes you on a journey from New York City where everyone is “someone” but no one has time for each other, to Sullivan’s Island where all you have is time and each other. The characters are charming, quirky and honest and even if you don’t like them all at the beginning, you will love them by the end. Written with true passion and appreciation for life in a small island community, the writer takes you through the rituals and history that has made this island what it is, as well as inside the hearts and minds of all those who come to know it. Every page has a unique blend of humor and angst that takes you on a rollercoaster ride through every day life. I found myself looking forward to each chapter in anticipation of what might ...

  • Another visit to the South!!

I love all of Dorothea Benton Frank's books--- and this one was as great as the others. She has a wonderful sense of humor--(ie, if you're going to Hell, you'll fly through Atlanta to get there)-- those of us who have been thru Hartsfield know it's true!! Fun to read, great laughs, an all-around great book. I read this one in 2 days--- I do afterall have a job to attend to on Monday morning.

  • The Land of Mango Sunsets

This is one of Dorothea Frank's best books. She keep you interested from the first page. She develops her characters and story line with excellence. You will love the main character and also hate her at times, but in the end you will cry with her and feel her emotions. If you have been in her situations you will live it with her. I recommend this book highly, you'll love it.

  • Wonderfully entertaining book.

Enjoyed this book immensely! Hated to finish it.
