    Should have read better.

I thought I was getting the newer edition based off of the photo. I should have read the entire description but was in a hurry. I will know better for next time.

  • Convenient to have a core knowledge book at home!

I love the convenience of having the content for what a first grader needs to know right at my fingertips. This saves me time in gathering all the materials at the library or purchasing it separately, especially as I am homeschooling my son. Of course, I definitely supplement the book with other resources. This book is especially useful to me as a guide when I am planning out a course of study over a period of time, it's nice to have the book at my fingertips for perusal and for generating other ideas of study. Thus far, I don't have any cons about the book. Some friends of mine who looked at the book said that it was kind of advanced for first grade. For me, I'd rather it be more advanced than less advanced. The material matches up pretty well for the most part with the state's ...

  • Great spring board for teaching a 1st grader

I bought this in addition to the What your Kindergartner needs to know. My daughter asked to read the World and American History sections, who knew? I would have not chosen many of the things to teach her but, with this book written on her level we both learned a few things about history. It also gives great resources for additional reading. The math and Science concepts are great as well. Highly recommended !!

  • What Your First Grader Needs to Know by E.D. Hirsch

TREMENDOUS BOOK!!! Any parent could make great use of this book as it will tell you specifically what things your child will be (or should be) learning in 1st grade. As a home school parent, it will give a GREAT outline for setting up curriculum! You won't BELIEVE the information packed in this book!

  • Wrong edition.

They sent me the older edition. Not what it looks like on the picture. They should put the right picture for the edition being sold.
