  • A very scholarly and erudite work.

I now have all of this author's works and for a good reason: his books are very erudite and trustworthy. This book is a necessary companion for "The Highly Selective Dictionary for the Extraordinarily Literate". This book should be on the shelf of every verbophile.

  • Unusual Thesaurus

This book focuses on more arcane words and is rather slim. A writer would not be satisfied with this as their only thesaurus since it overlooks common, frequently used words in favor of the unusual and under used terms. Nevertheless, it's an enjoyable, clever book and a nice add-on to a standard thesaurus.

  • Highly Selective Thesaurus for the Extraordinarily Lite

Godd book, but I did not find it as useful as it's first cousin, the similarly named Thesaurus. It was also disappointing to look up "Sanctimonious" and not see Rep. Boehner's portrait.
