Product Information

This classic survival manual offers you the first comprehensive patient guide for managing the common but often misdiagnosed conditions of fibromyalgia and chronic myofascial pain. The management techniques found in Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain include targeted bodywork for painful trigger points and strategies to help you cope with the chronic pain, sleep problems, and numbing effects of 'fibrofog' that occur as a result of the disease. This edition includes coverage of promising new research on the causes of fibromyalgia, evaluation of new treatments, complete discussions of special issues for women and men, and the latest information on medication. It includes a popular provider index, which can help you select those practitioners who will take your complaints seriously and offer knowledgeable treatment advice.

Reviews
"In a 1997 book review, I extolled the extraordinary features of the first edition of Starlanyl and Copeland's Survival Manual. As caregivers to FMS/MPS patients and sufferers themselves, their advice in the book was superbly tuned to readers' needs. Now, in this second edition, Starlanyl and Copeland have outshone themselves. Having updated the Survival Manual and enhanced its laudable features, they have made an already valuable book almost priceless." --Dr. John C. Lowe, Director of Research, Fibromyalgia Research Foundation, Board Certified, American Academy of Pain Management, An invaluable resource for self-help.... Starlanyl has produced a monumental labor of love with candor and meticulous attention to important details.—Robert Gerwin, M.D., Johns Hopkins University I heartily recommend The Fibromyalgia Advocate to all of my colleagues and their patients.—Lawrence A. Funt, D.D.S., M.S.D., director of the Cranio-Facial Pain Center, Bethesda, Maryland, "Devin Starlanyl has a remarkable determination to help relieve mankind of unnecessary suffering. The guidance in this book an serve both practitioners who have yet to understand the nature of their own musculoskeletal aches and pains, and patients who are unable to find a practitioner adequately skilled in this neglected subject. The message of this book is a voice crying out in a wilderness of neglect." --David G. Simons, M.D., Clinical Professor of Medicine at Emory University, "They've done it again! This second edition of the Survival Manual is a gold mine of practical advice and scholarly information put into everyday language. This book gives a great many options for all aspects of FMS/CMP and its message is one of hope. An owner's manual for you, and one that should be required reading for all of your health care providers, this is not a book to be read and crossed off of your list, but a resource to avail yourself of over and over again. The tools are here. Use it yourself and have those close to you read it also." -Richard Finn, Director, Academy for Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy, coauthor, Myofascial Pain Syndrome: Manual Trigger Point & S-EMG Therapies, "Devin Starlanyl and her work are incredible resources to the fibromyalgic community. She has tirelessly researched her subject and freely and lovingly shared it with those who have suffered pain and disability." -Dr. Craig N. Anderson, D.C., past president of the Vermont Chiropractic Association, "Devin Starlanyl has a remarkable determination to help relieve mankind of unnecessary suffering. Best Fibro book EVER written

This is thee most comprehensive, compelling, most empathetic, and easy to read reference book I’ve ever read on the topic of Fibromyalgia. I had a copy, but lost it. Thankfully I found this one at a VERY reasonable price! (Thank you). After my diagnosis, I read, researched and sought out this book to find comfort, answers and offers for solutions to this affliction that baffles most doctors to this day - in 2018. Fibromyalgia is widely misunderstood. This book is well understood and is my Fibro bible. I highly recommend for anyone suffering from this condition, and the foreword to be read by families of those suffering. My personal reference manual. Thank you to the authors, to the seller, and to anyone considering buying this book. I can not recommend it with any higher regard! Cheerio, ...

  • My bible to fibromyalgia and myofascial pain

After a long year I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It has taken Doctors a long time to come to that conclusion. I began researching this illness before the Doctors decided to put that name on my monster. This was one of the 5 books I purchased to research from. After being diagnosed I started speaking to other individuals about their fibromyalgia journies. This book kept coming up from them as a research source so it is being used by others too. This was the first and only book I've run across that talks about the myofascial pain. That is really my first symptoms that my Doctors and Chiropractor kept treating as a back injury. I probably had that for years before the actual fibromyalgia took over my body. That also is why they would not diagnose me with fibromyalgia because I didn't have ...

  • Finally an answer to all my questions! A+++++

This book is a life saver. When you have Fibromyalgia you think you're going crazy. Nobody tells you all the symptoms you're going to have, so you try to hide them. I bought this book for family members so they would understand the constant pain, the slurring, and the not being able to walk sometimes. Not to mention the Fog. My husband does the grocery shopping now because it's just too overwhelming, and I am working on not feeling guilty about letting other people do things, and not taking on so much. Now instead of hiding when I have episodes I just tell people, "I have Fibromyalgia". 99% of the time the people I tell say they know someone who has it, too. This book has helped me 100% to feel like I can live a better life and not be embarrassed. Thank You and God Bless You for writing ...

  • Accurate description

This is an excellent book for anyone diagnosed with fibromyalgia and/or myofascial pain syndrome. It will also help others in your support network better understand what you are dealing with. Dr. Starlanyl's writings from her first hand experiences have helped educate others in the medical field. My physician highly endorsed her work for helping cope and learn to manage this debilitating disorder in my own life. The books give me hope, which one tends to loose when living in daily chronic pain which seems to have no end. I highly recommend it to anyone dealing with this monster disorder.
